2019-20 Premier League – Sunday 22nd December Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The final day of Premier League action prior to Christmas sees two matches taking place on Sunday, as we continue to move to within a round of games before the halfway mark of the top flight campaign.

The picture around the Champions League spots and the top six will be in focus throughout the afternoon on Sunday while the bottom side will be looking to gain some pre-Christmas cheer when they open up the show.

Watford vs Manchester United (14.00)

The opening match of the afternoon comes from Vicarage Road where bottom of the lot Watford host a Manchester United side looking for a win that would move them into the top six once again should they manage to secure it.

This is the first home game for the Hornets under Nigel Pearson so all eyes will be on them to see what has changed under him from previous managers. Their supporters will be hoping goals have changed as they have barely scored any all season. United are bubbling under the radar of previous expectations. They aren’t losing too many and are beginning to convince a little more even if it isn’t readily accepted by everyone. I still have my concerns over them on the road though so I’ve no interest in taking them but I can’t be backing a side who are barely scoring a goal every other game.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea (16.30)

The second match of the day is the one that the focus and attention will be on as Tottenham Hotspur take on Chelsea which sees Jose Mourinho up against his former club and the man whose career he did wonders for in Frank Lampard.

Both these sides are deeply involved in what is becoming a right old scrap for fourth spot in the table and a win for either could be significant in that chase. Tottenham have been in good form under Mourinho but lost their only match to a big six side since he arrived. Chelsea have lost four of their last five and their bright start to the campaign looks to be nosediving at the wrong time.

Ultimately though I don’t trust either of these sides. I don’t trust Chelsea because they are in poor form and I don’t like Spurs because they’ve stunk the place out in big matches for too long but given that both defences look comfortably the weaker suit of the two on show here, I do think we’ll see goals and as much over 3 looks like a punt that is likely to land here.
