We have a midweek set of matches in the Premier League and they get underway on Tuesday night when six fixtures take place up and down the country, with some big sides in action on another appealing evening of football.
Two of these matches can be accessed on BT Sport for those of us who are in the UK while there are plenty of other ways to keep up to date with the other four matches be it social media or other means.
Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows: (7.30pm unless stated)
Aston Villa v Watford
AFC Bournemouth v Brighton & Hove Albion
Crystal Palace v Southampton
Everton v Newcastle United
Sheffield United v Manchester City
Chelsea v Arsenal (8.15pm)
Preview
The two televised matches are the ones involving three of the big six. The first of them comes from Bramall Lane where Sheffield United go up against Manchester City with all eyes on the latter to see how they go after dropping more points on Saturday. The second TV game is the match of the round as Frank Lampard and his Chelsea side host Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal team with both clubs looking to prove they can win the big matches and get themselves back to where they want to be in time.
Elsewhere, Steve Bruce takes his injury ravaged Newcastle United side to Goodison Park to take on Everton while at the bottom end of the table there are two big matches. They see Aston Villa hosting Watford in a huge game for both clubs while Bournemouth welcome Brighton to the Vitality Stadium in a near must win game for the home side. The other match taking place on Tuesday night sees Crystal Palace going up against Southampton.
Betting
I like two bets over the course of the night with the first of them coming at Bramall Lane where Sheffield United host Manchester City. I think City will win the game, perhaps not going away but I think they’ve got enough to come out on top so I’m looking for a way to bump up the price on them, and I think the way to do it is to take them to win the match but there to be under 4.5 goals in the game. We know Sheffield United by now. They don’t concede an avalanche of goals but they don’t score many either and given that this is their second game in three days and with a cup tie to come at the weekend I would imagine City will ease up a little in the second half if they are comfortable in the game. If they’re not when we won’t be seeing 4.5 goals anyway. That takes the price up to 5/6 which is more than acceptable.
The other bet I like is for Everton to see off Newcastle United with a bit to spare. It is well known that Newcastle don’t score many goals, indeed only Bournemouth and Watford have scored fewer than them this season, and with the injuries they have got it is hard to see much changing here. Everton are much improved under Carlo Ancelotti particularly defensively where they have only conceded four goals in six matches. Their only defeat since Marco Silva was sacked was at the Etihad Stadium which is no disaster and they have won at St James’ Park in that time too. With all the players Newcastle have missing and Everton seemingly on the rise, I expect a home win here.
