We are heading towards the final third of the Championship season and we continue to get there with more matches on Saturday. The current fixture list began on Friday and will run until Monday, but nine games take place on the usual day of football action.
As ever on a Saturday we have a TV game to enjoy followed by the rest of the matches which these days have plenty of ways to be kept up to date with on what could be another massive day in the second tier.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated)
Queens Park Rangers v Leeds United (12.30pm)
Birmingham City v Cardiff City
Bristol City v Barnsley
Derby County v Hull City
Huddersfield Town v Brentford
Millwall v Reading
Preston North End v Charlton Athletic
Sheffield Wednesday v Blackburn Rovers
Swansea City v Wigan Athletic
Big Matches
The TV match is the lunchtime kick off where Leeds United will look to end their abysmal recent record in the capital when they travel to QPR. A win for the Whites will send them top of the pile with West Brom not in action until Monday night. Brentford went into the weekend in third place and they will look to consolidate that position when they make the trip up the M1 to take on a Huddersfield Town side who shouldn’t be underestimated by any means.
Best of the Rest
There is a big match at both ends of the table as Swansea City host Wigan Athletic while another side beginning to struggle, Charlton Athletic, make the long trip to Deepdale to take on Preston North End. Barnsley also face high up opposition when they go to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City. Sheffield Wednesday host Blackburn Rovers while Wayne Rooney and his Derby County side will look to put plenty of negative headlines behind them when they welcome a hit and miss Hull City to Pride Park.
Betting
Preston North End have lost some of their mojo from earlier in the season in recent weeks but they have the ideal chance to get it back when they host an injury ravaged Charlton Athletic side on Saturday afternoon. Charlton are short of attackers for the match with Lyle Taylor and Macauley Bonne both missing and worse still for Lee Bowyer and his men is that Chelsea recalled their best player Conor Gallagher earlier in the week and he’s now at Swansea.
Preston have already addressed their need in the transfer market and the addition of Scott Sinclair looks like one which should provide them with the necessary boost to turn their dip in form around. I don’t think North End will need to be anything overly special to win this match though and so I’m happy to back them on the -1 Asian line, knowing we get a refund for a one goal win but comfortable that Preston have a bigger win in them than that.
