The Sky Bet Championship began in thrilling style on Friday night when Luton Town and Middlesbrough played out what will surely be one of the matches of the season, and it continues on Saturday with nine more fixtures in the second tier.
As ever on a Saturday there is a live game in the UK while these days there are so many ways of keeping up to date with everything else that is going on that we should be able to keep on top of all the action.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated)
Barnsley v Fulham
Blackburn Rovers v Charlton Athletic
Brentford v Birmingham City
Millwall v Preston North End
Reading v Sheffield Wednesday
Stoke City v Queens Park Rangers
Swansea City v Hull City
Wigan Athletic v Cardiff City
Nottingham Forest v West Bromwich Albion (17.30)
Big Matches
The TV game comes from the City Ground on Saturday afternoon as dark horse potential Nottingham Forest take on a West Bromwich Albion side who aren’t really being talked up but who have the chance to showcase their talents at the earliest opportunity under new boss Slaven Bilic. Two relegated sides are in action on Saturday too. Both are away from home as Fulham travel to newly promoted Barnsley and Cardiff City head to Wigan Athletic.
Best of the Rest
The other promoted side from last season at Charlton Athletic and they make the trip to Ewood Park to take on Blackburn Rovers while Stoke City will look to start this season much better than they played the previous one. They are at home to QPR. Four sides who may be at the wrong end of the table battle as Reading host Sheffield Wednesday while Swansea City take on Hull City. The other match sees improving Brentford going up against Birmingham City to kick off the final season at Griffin Park.
Betting
I’m going to keep things fairly simple over the course of Saturday and look to build on what was an easy winner on Friday night with one more bet on the nine match card. There were a couple on my radar with Blackburn very much being one of them. I still expect them to win but Luton showed what momentum can do so maybe Rovers are a touch too short.
Brentford certainly aren’t though and there should be a fair gulf between themselves and Birmingham City not just over the course of the season but also on Saturday afternoon. The Bees have strengthened in the key areas at the back and have retained a lot of their attacking mite and should be more than a match for a Birmingham side who may never get going this season, but who certainly look to need time to gel at the very least before they do. Home win for me here.
