Super League XXVI – Sunday 1st August Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

Another round of matches in this crazy Super League season begin on Sunday as two more fixtures take place in the competition which is becoming pretty brutal with the quick turnaround between the games for many teams.

Two matches are on the Sunday card with the first one in the afternoon not being on the television but the second game is being televised so we can get our rugby league fix later in the day on Sunday. We’ll start the preview away from the cameras.

Wigan Warriors vs Leigh Centurions (15.00)

The first match of the day is a bit of a local derby as the Wigan Warriors take on the Leigh Centurions with both sides looking for a win for different reasons – Wigan to get in among the top teams and the Centurions to finally get off the mark for the season.

Wigan go into this match as 20-22 point favourites depending on which bookmaker you use but they were in action as recently as Wednesday so they have a short turnaround to back up a defeat. This will be the first match for Leigh Centurions in exactly a month so they certainly have the freshness on their side. Whether they are good enough is the big question. I think Leigh with the start is probably the right bet here because Wigan will just want to win and move on rather than run up the score, but I just don’t trust Leigh with my money so I’ll sit this one out.

Leeds Rhinos vs Warrington Wolves (19.30 – Sky Sports Arena)

The big match of the day is the one which kicks off in the evening in front of the TV cameras where the Leeds Rhinos take on the Warrington Wolves in a clash between two sides who have their eyes firmly on a push for Old Trafford from here on in.

Bookmakers have got this match priced up quite tight with the Warrington Wolves as the marginal favourites. There was nothing in their two wins in midweek to pick out a huge difference in the two teams. Warrington were impressive against Wigan when they got going and Leeds were equally as impressive against Hull FC. The telling factor here could be the extra day Warrington have had to recover for this match. That might not sound a lot but when matches come thick and fast it is huge. This will only be Warrington’s second match in the best part of a month so they should still be fairly fresh whereas Leeds have been at it throughout that period and it will catch up with them at some point. I would be surprised if that isn’t here.
