Another hectic week of action in the Sky Bet Championship begins on Saturday, the first of three sets of fixtures in the space of eight days, with another midweek set of action to come after this one, so all 20 sides in action will be looking for three points.
The weekend began with an entertaining match on Friday night and hopefully Saturday will provide much of the same as we have a TV game on offer and then there are many ways of keeping up to date with the others.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated)
Huddersfield Town v Leeds United (12.30)
Blackburn Rovers v Derby County
Cardiff City v Barnsley
Fulham v Bristol City
Hull City v Stoke City
Luton Town v Wigan Athletic
Middlesbrough v Charlton Athletic
Queens Park Rangers v Preston North End
Reading v Birmingham City
Sheffield Wednesday v Brentford
Big Matches
We have to wait until Sunday to see the leaders West Bromwich Albion in action so Leeds United have the chance to go back to the top of the table for 24hrs when they head across Yorkshire to face Huddersfield Town in the early kick off, which happens to be the televised match on the day. Fulham in third will look to close the gap on the leaders when they host a dangerous Bristol City side while Preston North End, the other side in the top six, head to the capital to take on Queens Park Rangers.
Best of the Rest
The two sides either side of the relegation divide meet in a key match at Kenilworth Road when Luton Town look to put their mauling at Brentford last week behind them when they host a Wigan Athletic who have been useless away from home since returning to the top flight. Elsewhere at the wrong end of the table Middlesbrough host a Charlton Athletic team who are falling fast, while Reading welcome Birmingham City to the Madejski Stadium. The bottom two are both on the road, Barnsley head to Cardiff City while Stoke City make the trip to Hull City.
Betting
QPR tempted me given the issues Preston are having with injuries at the minute but I read that North End are hopefully of having some key players back so I am going with just the one bet to kick off the busy week in the Championship. That comes in the clash at Ewood Park where Blackburn Rovers take on Derby County in a match I am expecting the home side to come out on top in.
Derby have only won one away match all season and that was on the opening week of it against a Huddersfield Town side who were pathetic at that time. Blackburn have dropped some silly points at home this season but they are unbeaten in five in front of their own fans heading into this one and I expect them to pick up the three points here. I’ve mentioned a few times that I don’t rate Derby anywhere near as highly as others do and I think some of their results have papered over some cracks. Blackburn are what they are but that should be good enough to win here.
