The penultimate round of what has been a quite amazing Championship season ends on Sunday afternoon when the final two matches take place and for one of the teams involved in it quite simply do or die.
That was how it was meant to be for Leeds United but they have had their feet up and watch their promotion rivals both lose over the weekend so what could’ve been a pressurised day has turned into a victory lap for them. Their match is live on TV and there are loads of ways of staying up to date with the other one. We’ll start the preview with the televised match.
Derby County vs Leeds United (14.00 – Sky Football)
The televised match on Sunday afternoon sees the newly crowned champions Leeds United celebrating their return to the Premier League when they travel to face the team who famously denied them a shot at the big time last season in Derby County.
It is fair to say there is a bit of needle between these two teams after Frank Lampard accused Marcelo Bielsa of spying on his training sessions last season but quite what shape Leeds will be in to fight here remains to be seen. We’ve all seen the videos of their players celebrating and partying on social media and good luck to them, it is more than deserved, but it does beg the question over what they’ll have in the tank here.
Let’s take the celebrations out of it, it should be said that Leeds haven’t been fantastic on their travels since lockdown. They lost at Cardiff, needed a couple of special goals and decisions to go their way to beat Blackburn and only saw off Swansea in injury time. Derby have hit the buffers in recent times with their inability to keep 11 men on the pitch costing them dearly but their suspended players are back here and you sense the hosts will be bang up for this one. We’ve seen the way Liverpool have struggled since they won the title and initially Leeds may well too. Derby draw no bet will do me.

Barnsley vs Nottingham Forest (15.00)
Two sides who are very much playing for something on Sunday afternoon meet away from the TV cameras as Barnsley host Nottingham Forest with the home side knowing they will be relegated if they lose while Forest still need a point to guarantee being in the play-offs.
Barnsley put up a very creditable account of themselves against Leeds United on Thursday afternoon but it always concerns me when teams put a shift in against Leeds because it can take so much out of you, especially with a short turnaround. I saw it with my own team a couple of weeks ago and it is tough. With that in mind I would have usually backed Nottingham Forest here but the fact they only need a point and are never the most adventurous side at the best of times is more than a concern with that one so the obvious thing to do here is sit this one out.
