The next leg in the conclusion of this Championship season begins on Tuesday night when five fixtures take place across the division, and with so much still to be decided in the competition, it has all the makings of an important night.
Of the five matches, we have one on the TV in the UK and then there are the usual ways of keeping up to date with the other games so there is no need not to be on top of the action on what looks like being a big night at both ends of the table.
Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off and TV in brackets)
Nottingham Forest v Fulham (17.00 – Sky Football)
Brentford v Charlton Athletic (18.00)
Luton Town v Barnsley (18.00)
Reading v Huddersfield Town (18.00)
Cardiff City v Blackburn Rovers (19.45)

The televised game is a pretty big one for the two teams involved as Nottingham Forest host Fulham in a match which sees the sides in fourth and fifth doing battle. Fulham in fourth might not have given up hope of reaching the top two this season but they have to win here to keep those chances alive. It is all about preparing for the play-offs for Forest, and given that if the season ended now these two would meet in the semi-final, this is a chance to lay a bit of a marker down.
Brentford know that the top two don’t play until later in the week so they have the chance to move to within two points of the top two if they can see off Charlton Athletic at Griffin Park. It is crunch time for the bottom two in the table and they meet at Kenilworth Road when Luton Town take on Barnsley in a match where the losers are going to be relegated barring point deductions saving them. Huddersfield Town are far from out of the mire themselves so they’ll be eager to get a result from their match at Reading, while Cardiff City will look to stay in front in the race for the final play-off spot when they host Blackburn Rovers.
Betting
I’ll go with two bets on Tuesday evening and the first comes in the match I’ll be watching where Luton Town host Barnsley at Kenilworth Road. These two sides will know a fair bit about each other having come up from League 1 together last season and given their situation I’m expecting a high scoring game here. They go into the match having shipped nine between them at the weekend so defences aren’t likely to be that confident. Both teams will know the situation here and if one goes behind they are going to have to take risks to get back into the game because losing just isn’t an option. A draw is no use to either really either and given that they’ve conceded 144 goals between them this season the attacking players should be licking their lips. Over 2.5 goals looks a good bet to me here.
I’m against Blackburn Rovers later in the evening. I’m going to against them for a couple of reasons. The first one is that they look like they’ve come back with their minds already on the beach and the second one is I saw first-hand on Saturday the effect that chasing Leeds around for 90 minutes can have on a team. Cardiff City aren’t anything special but they are unbeaten in six and have only conceded one goal since the restart which is not too shabby over four matches. They have wins over Leeds and Preston in that time which is encouraging and I think they can get the better of Blackburn too.
