The first ever Austrian Darts Championship concludes on Sunday when the last 16, quarter finals, semis and the final takes place on a stacked day of darting action out in Vienna, as the European Tour season will have its tenth winner crowned.
Most of the big names made it through to the final day of the tournament. As ever on the Sunday of these things we’ll be able to preview the last 16 in the afternoon session but time restrictions will deny us the chance to cover the rest of it.
First Four Matches
The action gets underway with the World Cup star Gerwyn Price taking on the veteran Dutch player Vincent van der Voort for a place in the quarter finals before Adrian Lewis is back on the big stage. He takes on the underrated Scottish player Cameron Menzies in a match which could be awkward for the former world champion. The home star Mensur Suljovic will then look to continue his quest for a title in front of his own crowd when he meets James Wilson before we are taken to the break by Ian White and Keegan Brown.
Later Four Matches
Two of the lesser lights of those remaining in the tournament meet in the first match after the break when Rowby-John Rodriguez takes on Mike De Decker before Peter Wright goes up against Joe Cullen for a quarter final spot. Dave Chisnall then goes up against Ricky Evans in what is likely to be a fast paced penultimate match of the session before a tasty clash between Michael van Gerwen and Jeffrey de Zwaan rounds off the afternoon.
Betting
I’ll go with the one bet on what looks like a tricky card on Sunday afternoon and it comes fairly early on as I’m going against Adrian Lewis. When you feel that Lewis has cracked it these days he throws in either a shocking performance or a really poor result and I wonder if that is going to happen here as it so easily could against a competent opponent who isn’t playing under any pressure.
Cameron Menzies has already taken out Michael Smith this weekend and although the Englishman wasn’t at his best that isn’t the fault of the former BDO man. He has come through two matches and lost only three legs in the process so he has to be doing something right. Lewis laboured to victory on Saturday and if there is no improvement Menzies has the game to take him out at a decent price.
