2019 Fever-Tree Championships Tennis – Day 2 Betting Preview

The first round of the Fever-Tree Championships at Queens Club in London concludes on Tuesday with the remaining 10 matches being played out across three courts including a sizzling day of action on the main show court.

It was largely a day for the favourites on the opening day of the competition on Monday but you get the feeling that it will be anything but that when the action takes place on Tuesday with a number of outsiders having live chances.

Centre Court

It is British day on Centre Court once again on Tuesday and first up is the in form Dan Evans. He meets Stan Wawrinka who has added to his coaching team in order to be able to function on this surface and it will be interesting to see how that goes. When they are done Juan Martin del Potro begins his grass court campaign when he meets the exciting Denis Shapovalov. Another Brit is in action in the third match on the main court when Kyle Edmund goes up against Stefanos Tsitsipas before the day is rounded off with Grigor Dimitrov facing the rising talent that is Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Court 1

It is a full day out on the second court as well as four matches take place there. They begin with the British wildcard Jay Clarke taking to the court to face Lucas Pouille before the former Queens champion Feliciano Lopez begins his quest for another title when he plays Marton Fucsovics. Former Wimbledon finalist Milos Raonic is third up on a really decent schedule on this court. He plays the former French Open semi-finalist Marco Cecchinato before the last match of the day sees Nick Kyrgios going up against the winner in the Netherlands last week in Adrian Mannarino.

Court 5

The only other court in action as far as the singles is concerned is Court 5 where there are two matches on the schedule. They begin with our pre-tournament pick Jeremy Chardy going up against Mikhail Kukushkin before Alex De Minaur is on show when he plays the former Briton and now Slovenia representative Aljaz Bedene in the other singles match on show here.

Betting

It looks like there could be some rain around in London on Tuesday so I wonder how the injury prone and cautious pair of Juan Martin del Potro and Grigor Dimtrov will fare in those circumstances. To be fair they would have it tough against the Canadian pair of Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime at the best of times let alone in greasy conditions where a rhythm will be hard to find.

Both the Canadians are outsiders for those matches but I’m not so sure I see it like that. Shapovalov’s serve should see him competitive against a del Potro who he has beaten before and although Dimitrov has had success here in the past, Auger-Aliassime has already made the final in Stuttgart on the grass and can use his recent acclimatisation to the surface to his advantage.

Extra Bet

I nearly took Dan Evans to beat Stanislas Wawrinka on Tuesday before all the rain but given that he has got an extra day rest I’m more than happy to get on the Briton here. My concern was that having won a couple of tournaments in the last two weeks he could be a little jaded so the extra day off should be something of a god send for him. Wawrinka has never been the most comfortable player on the grass so there is no doubt he is vulnerable here. Stan might have the class to win but he is right up against it here given the confidence his British opponent will be carrying into the match. At 6/5 there is enough juice to merit a bet on the Surbiton champion.
