The final day of the German Darts Championship takes place on Sunday with the tournament concluding from the last 16 onwards on what is a typically busy day out in Hildesheim. With Michael van Gerwen out of the reckoning there is an open feel to proceedings now.
That should guarantee an extremely competitive day of darts in Germany, beginning with the last 16 in the afternoon. As ever time will deny us the chance of getting stuck into the evening session but we’ll go through the last 16 here.
First Four Matches
The action begins with Peter Wright continuing his quest for another European Tour title. He takes on a Jermaine Wattimena for whom a good day could secure his World Cup berth. Adrian Lewis them faces Joe Cullen in what looks like one of the best matches of the afternoon before the heavyweight contest as Rob Cross meets Daryl Gurney. Both men will believe if they win that they can go the distance so all eyes will be on that match. Ian White, the highest seed now left in the tournament, faces Stephen Bunting in the final match in the top half of the draw in the afternoon session.
Later Four Matches
James Wade could be considered the favourite to win the tournament in light of van Gerwen’s departure and he will look to make it into the quarter final when he meets Darren Webster. Ricky Evans saw off Mensur Suljovic on Saturday and his reward for that is a meeting with Mervyn King. The penultimate of the afternoon sees the Wales World Cup team going head-to-head when Gerwyn Price plays Jonny Clayton before the session is rounded off as Keegan Brown takes on James Wilson.

Betting
There are a couple of competitive looking matches on the Sunday afternoon card but there is only the one bet that interests me. That comes in the final game of the afternoon where Keegan Brown will look to build on his success over Michael van Gerwen on Saturday evening, when he takes on James Wilson.
I like Brown here I must admit. Usually I’m a little reluctant to take a player after such a big win but I think Brown is playing well enough to build on that. He made the semi-final of a Players Championship event a couple of weeks ago where he lost out in a deciding leg to Raymond van Barneveld but he beat Dave Chisnall along the way and shoved up a couple of 100+ averages in the process so he’s in good touch. Wilson has struggled so far this year and he laboured through the previous round rather than impressing and given that he looks off the top of his game I’ll take him on with the confident Brown.
