The third day of action in the German Masters sees the second round of the tournament drawing to a close and the quarter finals being played on a busy day inside the Tempodrom out in Berlin, as the first ranking event of the year heads towards a close.
Some big names have made it through to Friday’s play although we lost the likes of John Higgins and Ryan Day on Thursday. Given the lack of surprises so far we should be in for a great day of snooker on Friday.
Afternoon Session
The afternoon session sees the second round of the tournament conclude and it will do so with Neil Robertson taking on Stuart Bingham in a juicy looking clash on the main table. Mark Selby is also in action in this session. He goes up against the very competent Dave Gilbert while the other big name slated to be in action is Ding Junhui. He faces his Chinese compatriot Xiao Guodong while two outsiders meet in the other match when Yuan Sijun takes on Duane Jones for a place in the quarter finals.
Evening Session
We only know two of the four matches heading into Friday with the winners of the afternoon session completing the evening card but the two matches already confirmed both look like tasty tussles as Mark Williams goes up against Kyren Wilson while Stephen Maguire faces Judd Trump in what could be a really good battle. The other two matches will see Sijun/Jones meeting Ding/Xiao and Robertson/Bingham playing Selby/Gilbert.

Betting
I’ll go with one bet on Friday and we have to wait until the evening session for it but I expect the Judd Trump vs Stephen Maguire match to be close. Maguire has a wonderful record against Trump but the Englishman is clearly in a rich vein of form at the minute so this should be something of a cracker it has to be said. Maguire clearly ups his game when he takes on Trump while Trump has the bit between his teeth.
Both men have played very well so far this week coming through for the loss of just five frames between them so everything is set up for a great match here. With no issues about who finished later earlier in the day that a couple of these quarter finals will have I’m happy to take over 7.5 frames at odds against in this one.
Tips
Back S.Maguire vs J.Trump – Over 7.5 frames for a 4/10 stake at 2.10 with William Hill
