2019 German Masters Snooker Qualifying – Day 2 Betting Preview

The second day of action in the German Masters qualifying sees another bunch of big names looking to progress to within a win of making it back to the Tempodrom in Berlin in the early part of 2019 for the main part of the tournament.

Luca Brecel and Ali Carter went out in the opening day of qualifying which might focus the minds of the bigger players who will be competing in the Barnsley Metrodome on Wednesday. Among those are Mark Williams, Neil Robertson and Shaun Murphy.

Morning Session

All the tables will be in action on Wednesday with Jack Lisowski the main man on show in the morning. He goes up against Mark Joyce on one of the streamed tables with the other one having an all-Chinese battle between Li Hang and Lyu Haotian, who could really do with a run in an event soon to justify his hype.

On the outside tables Adam Stefanow will be on show against Stuart Carrington while one of the better matches in the morning sees Anthony Hamilton playing Luo Honghao. Hammad Miah and Lukas Kleckers will do battle on another of the outside tables. Zhang Jiankang plays Chris Wakelin while Noppon Saengkham plays Liam Highfield. The other match in the session sees Gary Wilson taking on Chen Zifan.

Afternoon Session

There is a pearler of a match on one of the streamed tables in the afternoon session with Barry Hawkins going up against Michael White in a clash which should be far too good for this round of the tournament. Ding Junhui will be on the other streamed offering. He goes up against the veteran former world finalist Nigel Bond.

Yuan Sijun has a nice looking draw on one of the outside tables when he faces the amateur Ben Mertens. Anthony McGill could do with a big run for his confidence and he will need that to begin against Jordan Brown. Alexander Ursenbacher goes up against Duane Jones while Zhao Xintong takes on Sanderson Lam. The other two matches sees Xiao Guodong meeting Thor Chuan Leong and surprisingly Neil Robertson is cast out with the also-rans. He plays Jamie Clarke.

Evening Session

The world champion Mark Williams is back in action on Wednesday evening. He plays Fan Zhengyi on one of the main tables while on the other one two form men meet when the Scottish Open finalist Shaun Murphy faces the UK Championship quarter finalist Martin O’Donnell in what looks a really tasty tie.

Jimmy White will be popular on the outside tables and he goes up against Harvey Chandler. Fergal O’Brien meets Tian Pengfei on another of the low focus tables. There should be a cracking match in the outer hall when Liang Wenbo plays Thepchaiya Un-Nooh while Kuldesh Johal looks to take advantage of his entry into the draw when he goes up against Zhang Yong. The other two matches sees James Cahill taking on Basem Eltahhan and Tom Ford plays Joe O’Connor.

Betting

I think this is a tricky card so I’m not going to push too much after a decent week in Scotland last week. There is an ocean of snooker left this season so we don’t need to be chancing bets that might not be there but I do think there is one which stands out well enough to be backed on Wednesday.

Anthony McGill must be low in confidence right now. He has lost his last five matches and the highest ranked player he has come across in that time is Stuart Carrington at #48. Jordan Brown is not ranked that highly but he has some decent scalps on his CV this season with the likes of Luca Brecel, Gary Wilson and Jimmy Robertson all beaten by him. When Brown does lose, rarely does he get thumped. He has only lost one of his last five defeats by more than two frames and given McGill’s fragile confidence I expect him to add this match to that list, if indeed he is beaten which is by no means a certainly. I’ll take Brown with the 2.5 frame start.

Tips

WON – Back J.Brown (+2.5 frames) to beat A.McGill for a 4/10 stake at 1.73 with Coral
