2019 PDC World Darts Championship – Day 11 Afternoon Session Betting Preview

The final day of darts before Christmas sees six more third round matches in the PDC World Championship taking place as the tournament continues to build towards its climax after Santa has been and delivered his goodies.

The shocks continued to keep coming on Saturday when the Players Championship winner Daryl Gurney was dumped out while Gary Anderson had to survive a deciding set. The 12 players in action on Sunday will be hoping for more facile victories. 6 of those players are on show in the afternoon.

Vincent van der Voort vs Chris Dobey

The afternoon gets underway with what looks like a relative even match up between Chris Dobey and Vincent van der Voort for a place in the last 16 against Gary Anderson after Christmas. Bookmakers find it hard to split the two and it is easy to see why.

I think Dobey is the more reliable of the two men heading into this match but the experience belongs to van der Voort, although whether he can sustain his form over this distance remains to be seen. My gut feeling is that Dobey will win this but he’s probably fairly priced and no more so I’ll sit this one out.

Brendan Dolan vs Mervyn King

Two experienced campaigners meet in the second match of the afternoon when Brendan Dolan takes on Mervyn King. Both men will have seen all four top 16 ranked seeds exit their quarter and will know someone lower down the ranks will bank at least £100,000 for reaching the semi-final of this tournament.

That is likely to tighten this match up significantly because not only is £100k a serious wedge of bunce but it would propel whoever gets it in and around the top 16 and be a game changer for the next two years. For two players who haven’t had the best year and might be beyond their prime that is hugely significant. Bookies make King a slight favourite and I see it like that too but it is hard to back him over long formats these days and Dolan isn’t to be trusted. I’d have taken Dolan at an attractive price but this one is just normal really so this is a no bet too.

James Wade vs Keegan Brown

The final match of what looks like a competitive afternoon of darts sees James Wade taking on Keegan Brown for the right to take on Ryan Joyce in the last 16, so both men will see a huge chance to make the quarter final.

Wade came through an epic in the previous round in controversial fashion while Brown was pretty poor in seeing off Jelle Klaasen but he didn’t need to be anything better than that in fairness. These two met in the first round of this tournament last year and Brown won 3-2 so Wade will be looking for revenge.

I think Brown is worth supporting here. I think he’s a much better player as an underdog than a favourite and I expect to see that in this one. Wade is playing some good darts but he’s never likely to blow a player away. He’ll just hold his nerve. Wade might still win this one but I think Brown can take him the distance if not get the better of him.
