The rain has relented in the UK and that means the Vitality Blast can continue on Thursday with matches across both groups on what is the penultimate day of the group stage of the competition.
There is still so much up for grabs before the quarter final line up is determined and we will be able to watch the action unfold. There is a TV game on Thursday night while the other three matches have live streams and regular updates.
North Group
There is only the one match in the North Group on Thursday and it is a dead rubber as Yorkshire take on Northamptonshire. With the washout on Wednesday in this section both these sides can no longer qualify for the next stage of the competition. These two sides have just five wins between them in 24 matches in this tournament and you wonder when they will focus their attentions elsewhere.
South Group
The TV game comes from this group and it is a huge match as third placed Kent host second placed Gloucestershire. The winners will qualify for the quarter final and will most likely book a home game in the last eight while the losers will bring a whole host of other sides into the mix. Elsewhere Hampshire and Middlesex battle it out to keep their quarter final hopes alive while the other match comes from The Oval where amazingly Surrey meets Essex with both sides still in with a chance of making the last eight.
TV Match Betting
The TV match is a huge deal and it is Gloucestershire who I think will come out on top in it. Kent began the competition very strongly but they’ve gone quiet in recent times having not won any of their previous three matches. Gloucestershire on the other hand are on something of a roll having won four of their last five and look to be hitting form at just the right time.
As the pitches tire in this insane heat that is back in the UK, I’m expecting Gloucestershire’s canny bowling attack to come into their own. Their batting is starting to tick along nicely and if Faf du Plessis needs a game or two to click into gear then he might not have the impact Kent are looking for. This Kent side look powerful with the bat but Gloucestershire rarely care about that. I’m with the visitors here.
Other Matches
Surrey have started to enjoy themselves since they have been knocked out of the competition and I fancy that can continue against an Essex side who are clinging on to their qualification hopes by the skin of their teeth. Surrey’s win over Somerset in midweek was very good with their spinners doing the business for them and given that it has been scorching in London since then those bowlers are likely to be key players once again.
Essex have two top class spinners but they’ve not really done much in this competition yet and if Aaron Finch gets the better of Mohammad Amir in the real standout battle of the night then Surrey would have the upper hand and should go on to dominate. In these conditions and with the form they are in I see a Surrey win here and a relatively comfortable one at that.
