A long week at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play tournament comes to a close on Sunday as the semi-finals and the final are played out at the Austin Country Club in Texas with a huge first prize and plenty of other benefits on the line for the victor.
Among the final four we have arguably the hottest match play golfer on the planet right now, a former champion, last year’s beaten finalist and a man looking to emulate some of the greats of the game.
Saturday Recap
It was a pulsating day of golf on Saturday which included the last 16 and the quarter finals of the competition. We saw high quality action, controversy, drama and plenty of exciting golf on a day where the tournament reminded us all of what is good about the purest format of the game over a wonderful day of action.
It was a mixed day for our bets. Francesco Molinari really turned it on against Paul Casey who found it impossible to live with the Italian but we got most of those losses back with Matt Kuchar comfortably coming past Tyrrell Hatton to salvage the day and give us a chance of ending the week in profit for the match betting.
Sunday Betting
The semi-finals of the competition will be played out in the afternoon UK time while the 3/4 play-off and the final is in the evening. We won’t have time between the two games to preview the second set of action but we can have a look at both the semi-finals, which on paper at least look like being hugely entertaining affairs.

Kevin Kisner vs Francesco Molinari
Match tees off at 15.05 BST
The first semi-final sees the finalist of last year, Kevin Kisner, taking on the man of the tournament so far this week in Francesco Molinari who is continuing his love affair of this format after his wonderful performance in the Ryder Cup.
I have Francesco as the favourite in this match although I don’t have him as short as the bookmakers do. I was initially tempted by the even money on offer with the tie and it might be that I regret not taking that, but if Kisner can stay with Molinari over the front nine I wonder if he’ll get the better of him down the stretch. Molinari has only played the 16th hole once this week and hasn’t beaten to 18 at all such is the dominance he has shown in his matches. Kisner has been up 17 in four of his five matches so that comfort with the back end of this course could yield dividends for him. I’m not going to bet initially but if this is close after the eighth hole I’ll get on Kisner in play.
Matt Kuchar vs Lucas Bjerregaard
Match tees off at 15.20 BST
The second semi-final is a clash of experience against a man new to this level as the former champion Matt Kuchar takes on the ever improving Lucas Bjerregaard in a match which might form a Ryder Cup clash in Hazeltine next year.
Kuchar has been his usual solid self this week, missing few fairways and holing putts at the right time while Bjerregaard has gone under the radar. Had he not three putted 18 on the second day he would be perfect for the week which is a good effort on debut around here. I mentioned earlier in the week that the Dane is actually nicely suited to this course because he drives the ball so well and you break the back of it if you crunch it well off the tee.
I think Bjerregaard is a good bet here. He has played the better golf of the two so far this week, shooting five under in both of his wins on Saturday and when you can play that golf against Tiger Woods and everything that comes with it you can do it against anyone. Kuchar has been involved in another controversy on Saturday, which might play on his mind here and so I think the Dane is well worth a go in this one.
