2019 World Grand Prix Snooker – Day 2 Betting Preview

The second day of action at the World Grand Prix sees two sessions of play and eight matches across the two tables as the tournament kicks into life inside the Centaur Building at the Cheltenham Racecourse.

The competition is still reeling from the shock exit of Ronnie O’Sullivan on Monday night and with him being beating the draw and tournament feels a lot more open. Mark Williams, Neil Robertson and Judd Trump are among those looking to make it through on Tuesday.

Afternoon Session

The main table action begins with the world champion Mark Williams on the green baize. The World Open winner takes on the dangerous Chinese player Yuan Sijun who beat John Higgins last week. They are followed by two classy operators when Neil Robertson goes up against another Chinese star in Xiao Guodong, who looked in wonderful form in Berlin last week.

The second table has a couple of interesting looking matches on them. Martin O’Donnell has qualified for this tournament for the first time and his reward is an opening clash with Ali Carter. They are followed by the European Masters champion Jimmy Robertson and Mark Davis who collide for a spot in the second round.

Evening Session

Judd Trump headlines the evening session when he is first up on the main table as The Masters and Northern Ireland Open winner goes up against Stuart Carrington. The match of the day is the second game on the main table when Ding Junhui takes on Jack Lisowski in a repeat of their clash from The Masters last month. Ding won on that occasion and will be looking to do likewise here.

The action on the second table should be juicy enough and it begins with the German Masters semi-finalist Stephen Maguire going up against Mark King in an intriguing battle. Joe Perry then takes on Tom Ford in the second game of the evening, to round off what should be a good and exciting day of action.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the day with the first one coming in the match between Neil Robertson and Xiao Guodong. Both men look in good touch. Robertson is scoring brilliantly while Xiao banged in three tons in his two matches in Berlin last week. The main table looked to be playing lovely on Monday night and should play even better here so I’m going to push the boat out and take the highest break to be over 110 in this one.

Ding Junhui thrashed Jack Lisowski at The Masters last month with the 6-1 scoreline being pretty emphatic. That followed a 5-1 win in their only other meeting so you have to think this is a good match up for Ding. Lisowski was well beaten in the first round of the German Masters so there is a fair chance that he could be open to the quality of Ding here. The Chinese player is beginning to come back to form and I think he wins this match.
