Preview
It is actually events at the foot of the table which get the attention in the early stages of the afternoon as Brighton and Hove Albion look to pull away from the immediate threat of dropping into the relegation zone when they head to St Mary’s Stadium to take on a Southampton side who will want a morale boosting win. Once they are done Sheffield United will play their first match without Chris Wilder when they travel to the King Power Stadium to take on Champions League chasing Leicester City in another high profile clash given the departure of the Blades boss.
The biggest match of the day in terms of history and I guess meaning is the third one as Arsenal host Tottenham Hotspur in the latest North London Derby with both carrying outside chances of making it into Europe for Arsenal or the Champions League for Spurs. The action then concludes with two more teams chasing a place among the elite of European football when Manchester United host West Ham United and their former manager David Moyes.
Betting
I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of Sunday with the first one coming at the King Power Stadium where Sheffield United might have changed their manager but I don’t see a change in results. The manager wasn’t their problem in terms of results. Their players just aren’t good enough and I expect Leicester City with a few players back to take advantage. Leicester probably aren’t a team to plough a bunch of your hard earned on at odds on but you can bump the price up nicely by backing them to win to nil. They haven’t kept as many clean sheets as they would have liked in recent times but Jonny Evans returns for this match so that might change. Sheffield United have lost 22 times this season and have failed to score in 15 of those defeats. Half of Leicester’s 16 wins have been without conceding and I expect that tally to go up one here.
The other bet I like is for West Ham United to avoid defeat when they travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United. The Hammers have already been to this ground this season in the FA Cup where they forced extra time which is encouraging. I have to admit I’ve been disappointed by West Ham in a lot of the bigger games this season and the absence of Jesse Lingard is a concern it must be said but Manchester United are missing plenty for this match with Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba all either doubts or out and David de Gea might still be in quarantine. West Ham should still have the personnel to take the game to United and I think they have enough about them to avoid defeat, especially if the home side have half an eye on their Europa League clash in midweek.
