2020-21 Premier League – Wednesday 20th January Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

This relentless schedule of Premier League matches continues on Wednesday evening when another two matches take place, games which will affect both ends of the table as we towards the halfway mark of what is becoming a compelling campaign.

As with all the matches since the last international break both these matches are live on TV for us in the UK so unless you’re a supporter of one of the Championship teams in action there is no reason to do anything other than put your feet up and watch some footy!

Where to watch

Both these matches are being screened live on BT Sport 1. The programme begins at 5.30pm with the first match kicking off at 6pm and the second one having an 8.15pm kick off.

Manchester City vs Aston Villa (18.00)

The opening match of the evening sees Manchester City continue to move ominously towards the top of the table when they play host to an Aston Villa team, who themselves are in a decent position with plenty of matches in hand to improve on that.

One of the reasons why Villa have those games in hand is the Covid-19 issues which has dogged them recently. It meant they had to field the kids in the FA Cup and subsequent matches were called off but they are back in action here, although just how up to speed they are we might only find out when this game kicks off. The incentive for City is pretty obvious here. A win sends them to the top of the table for a couple of hours at least. City look in decent form but then they throw a match in where they don’t look bang on it so weighing up when to batter them on a handicap and when not to is becoming much harder than it used to be. Given we don’t know what state Villa are in personnel and strength wise this one is pretty easy to leave alone.

Fulham vs Manchester United (20.15)

The second match of the night comes from the capital where whatever happens in the earlier match Manchester United will be looking to move back to the top of the table when they make the trip to Craven Cottage to take on a Fulham team who are battling hard to come out of the bottom three.

Fulham saw a five match unbeaten run in the Premier League come to an end on Saturday when they went down 1-0 to Chelsea having been forced to play half the match with 10 men. Although they are much harder to beat the Cottagers are still finding wins much harder to come by with just two all season. There is no doubt they have tightened up in defence which is very much a positive for their chances over the second half of the season, although I don’t see them getting anything from this one.

Manchester United arrive in London having won nine of their last 12 matches and off the back of a solid enough draw at Liverpool at the weekend. One thing you would say about United is their goals have dried up. Since they put six past a naïve Leeds side they have only scored six in the five games they have played since then which makes me think this could be a closer match than perhaps United would want it to be. This is a busy period of the season for United so I would imagine there will be a bit of rotation for them here. I still think they’ll have the attacking prowess to get the job done here but not to cover 3.5 goals. A low scoring United win is how I will play this match.
