2020 Belgian Darts Championship – Last 32 Tips and Betting Preview

The seeded players come out to play in the Belgian Darts Championship on Saturday, as the first European Tour event of the season sees the last 32 of the tournament being played out across two sessions of action in Hasselt.

That means we see the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright and Gerwyn Price in action on the European stage for the first time this year, and they’ll be looking to make progress in what is a competitive looking draw.

Afternoon Session

The competition gets underway with the nine dart man from Thursday night on show when Michael Smith takes on home man Ronny Huybrechts in a good opener before Joe Cullen takes on the BDO player Martijn Kleermaker, who has a chance to make a name for himself here. Krzysztof Ratajski then faces off against Gabriel Clemens in a match between two men who have already made finals on the floor this season before we head to the break with two veterans colliding as Glen Durrant takes on Mervyn King.

After the interval we have Rob Cross looking to find some much needed form when he takes on the Australian player Damon Heta who has already shown his worth on the big stage. Ian White will then look to back up a good campaign last term with a clash against Dirk van Duijvenbode before two Dutch stars collide as Jermaine Wattimena takes on Danny Noppert. The final match of the afternoon looks like another juicy contest as James Wade goes up against World Cup runner up Steve Lennon.

Evening Session

A big evening gets underway with the man who topped the Premier League table for a few hours on Thursday night as Nathan Aspinall takes on Steve Beaton for a place in Sunday’s action. World number three Gerwyn Price is then in action when he takes on Wesley Plaisier before the world champion Peter Wright graces the stage to take on the man returning to the PDC this season in Andy Hamilton. Michael van Gerwen then takes us to the break in what is a wonderful session of darts. He faces home man Mike De Decker.

We come out of the interval with another Belgian star on show when Kim Huybrechts looks to make progress against the talented former World Matchplay semi-finalist Jeffrey de Zwaan before Jamie Hughes takes on the last home player competing in the event in Dimitri Van den Bergh. The final two matches of a busy day of darts in Hasselt sees Mensur Suljovic going up against Ryan Searle and Jonny Clayton facing Steve West to close out the play.

Betting

I’m happy to take on a couple of seeded players across the two sessions on Saturday, the first of which being James Wade who looks vulnerable to me. Wade hasn’t started the year off fantastically on the floor and while that doesn’t always equate to stage form, it has to be a concern. To be fair Steve Lennon hadn’t done much of note either until last weekend when he made the semi-final of one of the Players Championship events, losing in a deciding leg to Gerwyn Price with a 97 average having earlier in the day clocked up averages of 110.62 and 106.59. Those numbers catch the eye and if he’s even close to that he should have enough to come through here.

Mensur Suljovic is another seeded player who hasn’t really hit the ground running in 2020. He has made a quarter final on the floor but in six attempts, someone of his quality should be doing a whole lot better than that. He might find his form on the stage but it is usually the other way round and we shouldn’t forget that in his last two stage appearances he has been beaten by Fallon Sherrock and eased out by Michael Smith in The Masters. Ryan Searle had a good World Championship and he has already taken that form with him and won a Players Championship event this season. He’s on a high right now and can see off the Austrian here.
