It is the final night of the first week of the A Night at the Darts event brought to us by the team at Modus Darts and it concludes what has been a wonderful period of action involving some great players from the past and present.
The overall league is still up for grabs going into the final night which is all anyone can ask for, and that should guarantee that the excellent standard we have been treated to in the latter part of the week remains in place.
The Format
Each night from Monday to Saturday five men will battle it out in a round robin group with the overall champion being determined on Saturday May 2. Matches will see the players compete over the best of 9 legs with each of them at home in front of a webcam throwing at their own individual dartboards. Scores can be found on Dart Connect and the tournament will be streamed on the bookmaker live streaming consoles and for free on Dartslive.tv.

Friday Recap
Scott Mitchell produced some of his best darts of the week to upset David Evans and land top spot on Friday night and he’ll be looking to build on that on Saturday with every chance of an invitation into the PDC Home Tour likely to come his way at some point. It was a competitive evening on Friday where Evans, Martin Adams and Ritchie Edhouse all picked up two wins while Raymond Barneveld could only register a solitary success.
It was a good night for us on the betting front as one of the two wins Martin Adams managed to achieve was against Ritchie Edhouse, at a decent price as we flagged up heading into the event. Hopefully we can finish the week in style with more winners to round off what has been a tough week to call overall.
Saturday Line Up
Wessel Nijman had the night off on Friday and he comes back for the last evening of the week looking to seal the overall honours. He’ll battle it out with David Evans over the course of the night to see who comes out on top. The World Championship winning trio of Martin Adams, Scott Mitchell and Raymond van Barneveld will be out to put spanners in the works of both men. Having improved as the week has gone on, it is the turn of Ritchie Edhouse to sit out the final night of this particular league.

Outright Betting
Given that Wessel Nijman and David Evans have got weaker the longer the week has gone on I’m tempted to take them on but someone is likely to have to beat the pair of them to upstage them and be the group winner and as much as I want to say that is going to happen, I’m not sure the odds reflect the chances of that happening, which means I’m going to swerve the group betting here and save my money for next week.
Of the two main protagonists it might be that the night off will have refreshed Nijman enough to get the job done here but even when he was going well earlier in the week he fed off some poor darts from his opponents which he might not necessarily get here. There just isn’t enough in any of the prices to float my boat.
Match Betting
I’ll take a chance on one at a big price and that is Scott Mitchell to beat David Evans. He appears to have the wood on his former BDO foe having beaten him in the last two nights they have met after falling to a 5-0 walloping in their first battle. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Mitchell has gotten better the longer the week has gone on but I’m not completely convinced the same can be said of Evans.
It might just be that Mitchell has won their last two meetings because his more sedate pace of play does Evans no favours in which case nothing is going to change in that regard here. The other reason to side with Mitchell is by the time this match comes around Evans might be playing for nothing. Mitchell won’t be either but if he has had the tip off that he’s in the PDC event at some point each match win is more confidence for that. At 13/8 the former Lakeside champion is just a bit too big to complete the hat trick of wins.
