The latest week of Icons of Darts action begins on Monday when another pool of players take to their home oches to get some competitive action while they wait for a full return of the sport, and to give us some live stuff to enjoy in the process.
Two men dominated proceedings last week so hopefully there will be a bit more of a competitive edge to things this week. The two pools have a stronger line up this time around so we should be treated to some great stuff.
The Format
Each day from Monday to Saturday six players will battle it out for a daily title. There are two pools of players, one which plays on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the other which toe the oche on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Each day the six players will play each other once over the best of nine legs with two points for a win. The daily winner is the player with the most points. If players are level on points it is determined on leg difference and then the record between the two. The entire event can be watched on various bookmaker websites, dartshop.tv or the Modus YouTube channel.
Saturday Recap
The early part of last week was dominated by Ritchie Edhouse and it was no different on Saturday as the former PDC ace won all five of his matches to dominate the group once again and emulate Martin Adams by winning his pool on all three occasions. It had looked like Scott Mitchell was on course to win the day but defeat to Edhouse put paid to that. Mark Webster and Adam Huckvale both came away with a pair of wins while there were solitary successes to round off the week for Mike Warburton and Keelan Kay.
Saturday might just have been the most annoying and frustrating day we have had in the Modus leagues. We had two bets. The first was for Mark Webster to cover a 1.5 leg handicap. That looked good when he led 4-3 and had six darts to polish off 40 but he failed to get the job done and ended up losing that leg and the match. You’d have thought it couldn’t get much worse than that but Mike Warburton pushed it with our second bet. We wanted him to beat Adam Huckvale and in the deciding leg he had six darts from 61 but he also couldn’t go out, missing five darts at a double to lose 5-4. 10 missed doubles cost us two winners.
Monday Line Up
We have a really good line up on Monday it has to be said. It has the champion of the first pool from last week in Martin Adams. He will be looking for an incredible fourth win in succession on Monday but he’s up against a strong field. The bookmakers have Boris Koltsov as the big danger but the Russian is going to have to provide a massive improvement on his finishing if he is going to get the better of the three-time champion of the world.
Four players will be out to prove that it isn’t all about those two. Fallon Sherrock is back for another tilt at the daily title while Jarred Cole gets another chance to showcase his talents in what is his only appearance of the week. Scott Marsh missed last week but he is back for another crack at things from Monday. We also have an Icons of Darts debutant in the form of the BDO star Dave Parletti, who will be out to make an impression right away.

Outright Betting
There are a couple of attractive prices for the group on Monday but I’m going to keep my powder dry because those prices aren’t going to go away later in the week when David Evans comes along and joins what is already a good party. Something tells me the 9/1 on Dave Parletti and the 14/1 on Jarred Cole could deliver a bit of interest throughout the day, but ultimately given the form he has shown recently, it is hard to go against Martin Adams.
That is not to say Fallon Sherrock at 14/1 and Scott Marsh at 16/1 are not decent prices although it is hard to see them winning out. This might well be a very competitive day behind the winner, who I have to say I think will be Adams although there is enough competition to swerve him at a best price of 5/4. The only one I can’t be having at the prices is Boris Koltsov but while a case can be made for the others I will save my money.
Match Betting
I will go with a couple of match bets though with the first of them coming in the opening match of the day when Scott Marsh takes on Fallon Sherrock. These two have been in a group in the past and Marsh won all three matches on that occasion. He won 5-2, 5-1 and 5-2 and I don’t think there is any fluke in that. Marsh tends to outscore Sherrock over this distance and over the nine leg format Sherrock’s finishing has been left open to be desired it has to be said. Both players had last week off so they will be out to prove a point here but I think all things being equal Marsh is probably the better player of the two. He should be a lot shorter than 10/11 in my eyes and so I’ll take him at that price.
Later in the day I’m prepared to take on Boris Koltsov in his match against Dave Parletti. The debutant is a decent price at 6/4 to beat a Russian who is becoming very expensive to follow. The reason for that is because his finishing has gone right off the rails. He probably delivered his best finishing for some time on Friday and still only hit 17 out of 56 attempts at a double. Parletti might be a newcomer to this event but looking at his Twitter account, he hasn’t only been playing some online darts but he has been playing well in the matches he has played too. Parletti is a decent scorer so if he can finish better than Koltsov he could well be delivering the goods at 6/4.
