The Icons of Darts competition continues on Tuesday when six players once again take to their home oches to fight out for the daily title created by the team at Modus Darts. This is a continuation of last week so we’ve seen this pool of players before.
The standard on Monday was a lot higher than was expected, and with the quality of the Tuesday pool being much stronger on paper, we should expect a really exceptional day of darts to keep us entertained as we wait for the World Matchplay to start at the weekend.
The Format
Each day from Monday to Saturday six players will battle it out for a daily title. There are two pools of players, one which plays on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the other which toe the oche on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Each day the six players will play each other once over the best of nine legs with two points for a win. The daily winner is the player with the most points. If players are level on points it is determined on leg difference and then the record between the two. The entire event can be watched on various bookmaker websites, dartshop.tv or the Modus YouTube channel.

Monday Recap
The bookmakers were vindicated in picking Jarred Cole as their favourite as it was he who took the daily title on leg difference from Scott Marsh in what was a really good day of darts. Cole landed the title when he saw off Marsh in his final match of the day but it was Marsh who delivered the best performance of the day when he averaged a crazy 114 in his win over Diogo Portela. Those two weren’t the only men to win four matches. Dave Parletti also achieved that landmark as well but his leg difference was the worst of the trio. Keelan Kay came fourth with a couple of wins ahead of Adam Huckvale on one win. Portela went winless for his work.
It was a winning day to begin the week with for us. We took two bets with the first on Jarred Cole to win the group at 2/1. That came in to secure the profit on the day but Scott Marsh could only beat Adam Huckvale 5-4 rather than the 5-3 we required him to do so that ate into a little bit of the returns. Nevertheless, we got going with a 3pt profit on the day and will look to build on that as the week goes on.
Tuesday Line Up
If you think back to a week ago, we have the same line up for this Tuesday as we did last. That means David Evans is the man who will be expected to win the title and most bookmakers have him the favourite for that to happen. He did not win the title last Tuesday though. That honour went to Ritchie Edhouse. He is the second favourite to make a successful defence of his title over the course of what is the first day this week.
Andy Jenkins will be eyeing up winning the title on Tuesday to keep up his recent record of winning groups. In truth I think they are the only three who have it in them to win the title but Mark Webster probably shouldn’t be completely dismissed. He finished second last week so is no alsoran here. Stephen Burton had a bad day at the office last week and he’ll be looking for much better here. John Brown is the other player to toe the oche.

Outright Betting
There is no doubt that David Evans and Ritchie Edhouse are the two men to be beaten on Tuesday but they meet in the second match of the day and that could bring someone else into the picture. One of those is going to have a loss to their name early in the day and we’ve seen motivation disappear once that has happened. The man who I think it could open the door to is Andy Jenkins, a player who probably should have won the group last Tuesday.
Jenkins won three out of the five matches, but his chances were all but ended when he lost 5-1 to John Brown when his luck was bang out. Brown averaged near enough a ton in that match yet that was his only 90+ average of the day, in fact three of his five averages were less than 81 so Jenkins had a serious short straw there. Had Jenkins won that match 5-1 or 5-0, something he has done in his two wins over Brown, he would have won the group. Jenkins is known for starting groups strongly but fading the longer the day goes. His last two opponents on Tuesday are his weakest two though so that all comes together to give him every chance at 11/2.
Match Betting
There isn’t a whole lot that stands out in the match betting department but there is one that has caught my eye. That comes pretty early in the piece when the two heavyweights in the group collide as David Evans and Ritchie Edhouse meet. There is a case to be made that Edhouse is good value at 5/4 but it isn’t the match winner market that I like, it is the total 180s where the line of 3.5 looks very much on the low side here.
These two have met six times since the format went back to the best of nine legs and in four of those matches the 3.5 line has been covered. Indeed in their last two matches, Evans has hit enough to cover them on his own. These two met are pretty relentless scorers when they get going and even though the match is early in the day they will both know the importance of it. Both men can hit a number of 180s and we’re only needing two each here. I expect them to cover it between them.
