2020 PDC Home Tour III – Group 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The third season of the PDC Home Tour continues on Tuesday when a fresh bunch of seven players start their conquest looking for as many points as they can pick up to hold a lofty position in the early overall league table.

With the big names of the PDC tour eyeing up a deep run in the European Championship later in the week we see a number of the lesser lights on show from their own homes where winning as many of their six matches as possible is the overall aim.

The Format

42 players will compete in PDC Home Tour III and they will all compete in three of the 18 groups in the first round where their results will be accumulated on one overall league table where the top seven at the end of the initial 18 days of action will form a Championship Group from which the overall champion will be crowned. All matches are the best of seven legs and the tournament will be broadcast on PDC.tv or the bookmaker streaming sites.

Group 1 Recap

Andy Boulton was the man who took the early lead in the competition on Monday when he won five out of his six matches but three other players kept close order on eight points as James Wilson, William Borland and Luke Humphries all won four of their games. It was not the start to the tournament that the likes of Adam Hunt, Barrie Bates and Jonathan Worsley wanted and they will need to go much better in their final two outings if they are to make it through to the Championship group.

It wasn’t the start to the tournament that we wanted from a betting point of view. We went with Adam Hunt to see off James Wilson in our only bet of the day but Hunt had a bit of a shocker throughout the day and one of the wins that he did pick up didn’t come in that match as he went down 4-2 after losing his throw in the opening leg when missing doubles to hold and he couldn’t get the advantage back unfortunately.

Group 2 Line Up

The Favourites

The star name on show on Tuesday is Chris Dobey and he will be expected to make a big start to his campaign because in terms of the rankings he is in a league of his own in this group. We’ve seen in Home Tour groups recently that he hasn’t always gone as well as we would expect so that will keep the others interested. In terms of the betting, Ryan Meikle is the only other player who is a single figure price to win the group. He has been in decent enough form in recent times and will expect to go well.

The Outsiders

Five other players will be looking to run up the wins with plenty of eyes likely to be on Lisa Ashton after she secured her place at the Grand Slam and World Championship recently so she’ll be in good form. Krzysztof Kciuk is getting ready for the World Cup in a week or so which will have given him something to practice for while Daniel Larsson and Marko Kantele are also getting ready for that tournament and will be using this for even more practice experience. David Pallett is the outsider of the seven.

Group Betting

We have the same equation in front of us on Tuesday that we had on Monday in that there is a warm odds on favourite who should dominate the group but as we stressed plenty on the opening day, this is not a tournament to be siding with short prices and that played out as we expected with Luke Humphries only winning four of his six matches and coming fourth. I’ve a feeling odds on shots will be expensive to follow and Chris Dobey is not likely to be any different here.

That would make me look elsewhere but I suspect this will be a group where everyone beats everyone so we’re potentially going down to leg difference and things like that which in best of sevens is not exactly ideal it has to be said. If pushed I might go with Daniel Larsson who has shown signs of something in Home Tours gone by but literally no winner would surprise me in this group so I’m happy to watch without an outright bet.

Match Betting

I’ll go with one in the match betting on Tuesday as I aim to get up and running for the tournament from a punting point of view. It comes fairly early in the day as well where I’m going to take the chance on Daniel Larsson to beat Lisa Ashton at 10/11. Ashton has been in good form recently but with no disrespect intended there is a big difference between playing the women and the men, especially with a lot of the women she took on in the Women’s Series recently not really used to the environment and the format.

Larsson lost all six matches in the last PDC Home Tour group he was involved in but it was significantly stronger than this one. That was played out in the fact that in four of the six losses he averaged over 90 so that was a tough group to be in. If he has that level with him here he is going to be very tough to beat here. When you add on top that he has the throw in this match his chances of winning get even greater.
