There are two days of matches left in the group stage of the Vitality Blast and the first of those comes along on Friday when there are eight games in the various groups. It goes without saying that for so many this is an important day of action.
Unfortunately we don’t have any TV coverage for these matches on Friday so we are going to have to rely on the county live streams to be able to watch the games. You’ll know by now though that they are of a decent enough quality so that isn’t too bad.
North Group
We have a couple of matches in the North Group on Friday with the leaders Nottinghamshire competing in one of them as they look to seal top spot and guarantee they will be at home in the quarter finals. They head to Leicestershire who other than local bragging rights have nothing to play for. In the other match in the group Lancashire will look to remain in control of the best second place when they host Durham, with the knowledge that the might yet be able to win the group should Nottinghamshire slip up in their match.
Central Group
There is a full round of matches in the Central Group on Friday night. We already know that Gloucestershire are in the quarter finals and they can confirm a home tie in the last eight if they can pick up a win against Glamorgan in Cardiff. Glamorgan are the only team to have beaten Gloucestershire this season so there could be a revenge mission here too. Northamptonshire currently occupy second spot in the table and they will look to stay there by winning against Somerset at Taunton but should they slip up the chance will be there for the Birmingham Bears to move into the top two when they host Worcestershire ahead of their huge clash with Northamptonshire on Sunday.

South Group
The South Group has a full round of matches which actually takes place in the afternoon. Surrey are currently in pole position for top spot and they will be looking for a win at Hampshire who have been terrible in this tournament and aren’t likely to suddenly improve now. If there is a slip up from Surrey then Kent can go level on points with them ahead of their meeting with the Londoners on Sunday. Kent host reigning champions Essex at Canterbury with the other match being a do or die one for Sussex and Middlesex at Hove where the losers will know their campaign is over for this season.
Betting
I’m going hunting for sixes on Friday evening with two matches in the Central Group the focus of my attention. Down in Taunton the 10.5 sixes line looks quite low where Somerset take on Northamptonshire. Both these sides have plenty of clean hitters in their ranks and we’ve seen throughout the competition and the test of time that the boundaries here are on the tiny side. Somerset’s attack has been carted in recent times but their batting is delivering the goods. Northamptonshire aren’t batting as well as they were at the beginning of the season but they’ll come good again and this is the perfect place to do it. I like over 10.5 sixes here.
I also like the same line at Edgbaston where the Birmingham Bears play host to Worcestershire. Birmingham tend to use the edges of their square for their T20 matches which means there is usually a short boundary to one side and the boundary down to their relatively new pavilion was dramatically reduced when that specimen was built so I’m expecting the batsmen to have a nice time of it here. Birmingham have a power packed batting line up while Worcestershire aren’t a million miles behind them. Unless they pull out a curve ball and play in the middle of the square, which I don’t see happening with another game to come on Sunday and the finals day pitch to prepare too, I don’t see there being less than 11 sixes here.
