The second season of the Remote Darts League gets underway on Monday night with four players opening up their campaigns when they play from their own homes across the world, to continue the entertainment for us in lockdown.
There has been a change to the format so each player competing on the night gets three matches so there is a chance for someone to stake an early claim for a top four spot. Defending champion James Richardson is the headline act on show.
The Format
The league phase of the competition will see the 16 players play each other once over the best of 10 legs across the first 20 nights of the season, with two points for a win and one for a draw. Four players play each night and compete in three matches in the sessions they play, so all 16 players will play in just five of the first 20 evenings of the campaign.
At the end of the league phase the top four will go into the playoffs on the final night where the semi-finals are played over the best of 15 legs and the winner will be determined over the best of 19 legs. The entire tournament is being streamed on the Remote Darts League YouTube channel and various bookmaker websites.

Preview
We kick off with what could well be one of the leading matches in the league phase of the competition as Richard Veenstra goes up against James Richardson for a couple of valuable points. The veteran American, Larry Butler, then takes to the streams to firstly to take on the one woman player on show on Monday night in Tina Osborne, before he meets the former World Trophy finalist Veenstra.
Tina Osborne then dominates the second half of the evening when she takes on the defending champion Richardson before facing the Dutch star Veenstra in what could end up being a tough hour or so at the oche for the New Zealander. The night concludes with another interesting match up as the winning of season one, Richardson, takes on Butler in a match that is not likely to take very long regardless of the score.
Betting
With 21 nights of darts in the second season of the competition I will ease my way into the campaign and take just the one bet on the opening evening. I am keeping us waiting for that bet as well because it comes in the final match of the night, where I expect the defending champion James Richardson to use the throw to his advantage to cover a 2.5 leg handicap against the veteran American player Larry Butler.
25 years ago Butler would more than held his own in this tournament and while he’ll have patches where he throws very good darts, the consistency is no longer there with him. I don’t expect this to be one of the widest margin victories of the night but I do expect Richardson to win the match. We have the advantage in this competition of knowing who has the throw first and it is the defending champion in this match. He was relentless throughout season one of this competition and he can end the first night of the second season in the same manner.
