2020 WDF Remote Darts League 2 – Monday 1st June Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Remote Darts League continues on Monday evening and with matches beginning to run out in the regular season for the players on show, every time they take to the oche and the live streams, every leg let alone match carries added importance.

We’ve seen a mixed bag of the good and the not so good in the tournament in recent nights but the four players on show on Monday will know it is now or never for them if they are going to launch any kind of charge to make the top four.

The Format

The league phase of the competition will see the 16 players play each other once over the best of 10 legs across the first 20 nights of the season, with two points for a win and one for a draw. Four players play each night and compete in three matches in the sessions they play, so all 16 players will play in just five of the first 20 evenings of the campaign.

At the end of the league phase the top four will go into the playoffs on the final night where the semi-finals are played over the best of 15 legs and the winner will be determined over the best of 19 legs. The entire tournament is being streamed on the Remote Darts League YouTube channel and various bookmaker websites.

Sunday Recap

It was the perfect night for Jim Williams on Sunday and one that he needed to become a factor in the race for the play-offs later in the week. He won all three of his matches 6-1 so he didn’t just improve his points tally but he did his leg difference the world of good as well. It wasn’t a terrible night for Darren Herewini who picked up two wins from his three matches. On the flip side it was an ordinary night for Justin Thompson and a terrible one for Tina Osborne.

It wasn’t the greatest betting night for us it has to be said. We put our eggs in the Justin Thompson basket in his match against Darren Herewini but in truth that never got going. He had a chance to level at 4-4 and then you never know but to be fair to the Kiwi he fully deserved to win. That was one of few deserved losers we’ve had in this tournament giving plenty of room for improvement for the remainder of the competition.

Preview

The three men on show on Monday evening are all under pressure to win as many matches as they can because they are all a little behind the eight ball when it comes to making it through to the semi-final of the evening. With that in mind, the potential danger of Laura Turner isn’t going to be helpful. Turner opens up the evening against Larry Butler before the caller’s nightmare match between the two O’Shea’s, Tony and John, continues the evening.

Tony O’Shea then meets Larry Butler in what might be the pick of the matches over the course of the evening before John O’Shea faces Turner. Whatever happens prior to the penultimate game of the night, we know that the clash between John O’Shea and Butler will carry plenty of importance given their current league positions. The night concludes with Tony O’Shea taking on Turner in a match he will not be able to afford any slip ups in.

Betting

I’ll take one over the course of the evening, which comes in the penultimate match of the night where John O’Shea goes up against Larry Butler, in a contest where the Irishman looks way too short to me to come out on top in. There is absolutely no hiding the fact that the missed doubles O’Shea racks up is not a massive concern. He readily accepts it is a major weakness in his game and I can’t be backing anyone at odds on with that being the case.

John O’Shea has played six matches against men in this tournament and he has only won one of them, against a Herewini who didn’t play overly great in the match, so he looks way too short to beat a seasoned campaigner in Butler, who while not being anything fantastic, has held Richard Veenstra and Jim Williams to 5-5 draws during this campaign. You would think O’Shea will outscore Butler here but those missed doubles will bring Butler into the game and the 4/5 on the American to pick up at least a draw here looks too big.

Tips

Back L.Butler (+1.5 legs) to beat J.O’Shea for a 3/10 stake at 1.80 with William Hill
