2020 WDF Remote Darts League 2 – Wednesday 20th May Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The third night of the new Remote Darts League season sees another four players getting their campaigns underway as the competition continues inside the homes of those involved on Wednesday evening.

We have had two entertaining evenings to pass the lockdown with so far in the tournament, and with the cast list that we have on show on Wednesday, there is no reason to suggest anything will change in that regard.

The Format

The league phase of the competition will see the 16 players play each other once over the best of 10 legs across the first 20 nights of the season, with two points for a win and one for a draw. Four players play each night and compete in three matches in the sessions they play, so all 16 players will play in just five of the first 20 evenings of the campaign.

At the end of the league phase the top four will go into the playoffs on the final night where the semi-finals are played over the best of 15 legs and the winner will be determined over the best of 19 legs. The entire tournament is being streamed on the Remote Darts League YouTube channel and various bookmaker websites.

Night 2 Recap

For the second night in a row we had a player picking up three wins from his three matches. On this occasion it was the man who was beaten in the final in season one in Paul Hogan. He opened his account with a 6-3 win over Joe Chaney but before that we had our first real shock of the tournament as Laura Turner beat Darren Herewini 6-4. Chaney also saw off Herewini 6-3 and the Kiwi saw his night end without anything to show for his efforts when Hogan also beat him 6-4. In the other two matches both Hogan and Chaney saw off Turner 6-2.

It was a second perfect night in a row for us from a betting point of view. We put our faith in Joe Chaney to deliver the goods and he obliged nicely which was good. Our first bet was for his match with Paul Hogan to contain more than 3.5 180s and with them hitting a pair of them each that landed and then we was on the American to beat Darren Herewini and he duly obliged for us there too, to deliver a 7.8pt profit for the evening to go with the winnings from Monday.

Preview

It is the beaten semi-finalist of season one who is the headline attraction on the evening as Tony O’Shea gets his campaign underway. He does so in the opening match of the night when he takes on the Australian player Justin Thompson. They are followed by the other two players who are in action on the evening when Lorraine Winstanley goes up against the French ace Thibault Tricole. Winstanley then stays on to face O’Shea in the match that takes us to the halfway mark in the evening.

It could be that the best of the six matches on this third night of action is the fourth game between Tricole and Thompson, two men who were in action in the World Championship at the beginning of the year. Tricole then rounds off his night against O’Shea before the action concludes for the evening with Thompson returning to face Winstanley, who will be looking to follow in the footsteps of Laura Turner, who picked up a win over a man on Tuesday.

Betting

This isn’t the easiest night to bet on it has to be said. I actually think the three men that are on show are pretty close to each other in terms of standard and there might not be a whole lot between any of them, while Lorraine Winstanley is likely to score well enough to be competitive if some missed doubles come her way, so after a couple of decent nights I’m going to approach Wednesday with a bit of caution and go with one bet which I sense is overpriced.

That is for Thibault Tricole to see off Tony O’Shea in the final match of the night for the two. I like the Frenchman for a couple of reasons. Firstly his efforts at European Q-School were encouraging. Even though he didn’t get a tour card he made the last 16 on a couple of occasions with plenty of averages in the high 80s and low 90s, the sort of standard that will have him competitive here. The other reason I like him is because although O’Shea had a good record in RDL1, his form significantly picked up the longer it went on and there’s a chance he might be a little rusty here. Tricole stays on to play this match so he should be in a nice groove by then and the 7/5 he comes out on top is just a touch too big for a man who sits inside the top 16 in the BDO rankings and top 5 in the WDF ones.
