It is last 16 day at the BNP Paribas Open on Wednesday when the entire round of matches take place at the ATP Indian Wells event on what might be the best day of the latest Masters 1000 tournament so far.
A lot of the big names have made it through to the final 16 so we should have a lot of competitive action on a night where the home crowds will get to see a number of Americans mixed in with the best the game has to offer at present.
Stadium 1
There are three matches on the main court on Wednesday with the men getting the action underway as two gritty campaigners battle it out for a place in the quarter final when Diego Schwartzman takes on Casper Ruud before the number one seed and US Open champion Daniil Medvedev looks to make progress in this event. He meets Grigor Dimitrov who is having a decent enough week so far. The other match comes in the night session where the Olympic champion Alexander Zverev takes on the entertaining Gael Monfils.
Stadium 2
Half of the matches that take place on Wednesday come along on Stadium 2 where it is men’s action all the way. The first match sees Aslan Karatsev taking on Hubert Hurkacz who is looking to take a step closer to the ‘Sunshine Swing’ double having won the Miami Open earlier in the season. When they are done the first of the Americans on show take to the court when Tommy Paul meets the one remaining British player Cameron Norrie. The other American remaining in the draw comes third when Taylor Fritz meets Jannik Sinner before Stefanos Tsitsipas closes out the men’s show on Wednesday when he goes up against Alex de Minaur in the night session.

Stadium 3
That leaves one match mixed in among the various doubles contests over on Stadium 3 on Wednesday. That sees a good opportunity for two men who aren’t regulars in the last eight of a Masters 1000 tournament to get there when Nikoloz Basilashvili takes on the Olympic silver medallist Karen Khachanov with a last eight clash with Tsitsipas potentially the reward for the winner.
Betting
This should be a competitive day of action but I’m acutely aware that half of the draw are backing up from playing the day before so I’m going to keep my bets to a relative minimum although I wouldn’t be surprised to see the two night matches end up a lot closer than the odds suggest they will. The bet I like though comes in the match between Tommy Paul and Cameron Norrie, one which I think will be a pretty long encounter.
Both men went three sets in their previous match. Norrie played very well in beating Roberto Bautista Agut while Paul was impressive himself in seeing off Andrey Rublev so both should be feeling good about themselves when they set out in this match. These two have only met once which was in Melbourne earlier in the year. Paul won that in three sets and it might be that he has his way with the Brit again but I don’t see this one being won quickly. When they met in the Challengers a few years ago that also went three sets so the over 22.5 games looks to have plenty of legs here.
