The second round of matches in the CONCACAF Gold Cup come to a close on Saturday night when the middle fixtures in Group D make up the double header of action which comes from the home of the Houston Dynamo once again.
Three sides are actively fighting it out for the two qualifying spots in the knockout stages from this group so we should be in for a competitive night on what is probably the most pivotal evening of the competition to date.
Grenada vs Qatar (00.30)
The opener of the Saturday double header sees the World Cup hosts Qatar continuing their campaign when they go up against the weakest side in Group D in the form of Grenada in a match Qatar have to be winning to keep their chances of progressing in a good place.
Qatar offered up plenty of good things in their first match, especially when you factor in that it is almost two years since they have played a competitive game. They looked quite fluent in attacking areas and although they allowed themselves to be exposed defensively a few too many times for comfort, you would imagine that as the tournament goes on that will naturally sort itself out. Grenada ran into a bit of a storm in their opening match with Honduras and will hope to showcase more of their credentials here. There is a chance that the rankings in this group are wrong though and that this might be their toughest assignment. I expect Qatar to win this but that defence sways me from getting stuck into a huge Asian line. This is one to watch with maybe an in running punt if Grenada keep things tight early on rather than a match to attack from the outset.

Panama vs Honduras (02.30)
The second part of the double header on Saturday evening sees two rival nations clashing in what might be a feisty match and one which the referee will have to have his wits about him as Panama take on Honduras.
This was going to be a big match anyway but when you factor in the winner will control their own destiny in the tournament it becomes even bigger. A Honduras win here will actually see them into the knockout stage and with Qatar potentially their toughest group match coming last, they will probably be eager to get the job done here. Panama will be a win away from the quarter finals if they win this match and they have the minnows Grenada last so they are in a good place too. I mentioned in the opening matches in this group though that Panama aren’t the side of a few years ago and if Qatar were more clinical they would have put them away. That is exactly what a really improved Honduras side were in that first game and I think they’ll take enough of their chances to come through here.
