NFL 2019 – Houston Texans @ Jacksonville Jaguars Tips and Betting Preview

The NFL hits London for the final time this season on Sunday afternoon when the Jacksonville Jaguars host their annual game in the English capital when they go up against the Houston Texans in an all AFC South battle.

In a competitive division these two sides take perfectly respectable records to London with them but given how tight it is in the AFC South, both will head to Wembley Stadium knowing that this is a match they can’t afford to lose.

Jacksonville Jaguars

It might be a changing Jacksonville Jaguars roster but the franchise as a whole are used to performing in London as they do it every season. They will hope to use that familiarity to their advantage when they stride out at Wembley. The Jaguars head to the UK off the back of successive wins. You can argue that they haven’t beaten anything in those matches, indeed they haven’t, but wins are wins all the same.

All eyes will be on the Jaguars defence here. Jalen Ramsey was a high profile loss and while they haven’t really felt the effect of that yet, they’ve not come up against a top level offense in the last couple of weeks. Another focus will be on Gardner Minshew, who should have time to deliver the goods, if he is good enough to do so. There is enough to like about the Jacksonville outfit here though.

Houston Texans

The Texans have won three of their last four matches so they will also be heading to London full of confidence but they suffered a blow in their win last week with the news that JJ Watt has been ruled out of the remainder of the season with a pectoral injury. That is going to significantly reduce the impact and quality of their pass rush so they are going to have to make adjustments defensively if they are to continue their good run.

One help they will have is the fact that in DeShaun Watson they have a quarterback who looks on top of his game and with some decent options elsewhere in the offense, there is no reason to think their output is going to reduce significantly even with the extra pressure on them from a point of view of not being able to rely on their defence as much. A win here will have the Texans in a very good position in the division.

Betting

I’ve a feeling that the Houston Texans will win this match but I just want to see how they perform without JJ Wat before I commit to that. I need to see a competitive and preferably dominant performance from the Jacksonville Jaguars before I truly trust them these days so in terms of a bet on the match I’m going to go with the total points rather than the spread.

The line for this match is 46.5 which has been covered in six of the eight matches featuring the Texans this season and three of the eight from Jacksonville. It is hard to judge the total points in Jacksonville matches though because they have played the Jets and the Bengals in the last couple of weeks – two poor sides. When they have come up against vibrant offenses though they have given up 40 to Kansas City and 34 to Carolina. That’s enough to make me think the over is the way to go here.
