We are heading into the home straight in the LV= County Championship season and the third to last round of matches begins on Sunday when those who are in line for a shot at the title will be looking for the win which will keep their hopes alive.
Even though the Test match is getting the TV treatment this week, these matches wouldn’t have been on TV anyway so as with the previous matches in the competition we will be heading to the live streams in order to watch them.
Division 1
Warwickshire lead the way in the race for the County Championship title. They know they are three wins away from what would be a famous title win. The first of those wins will have to come against a Hampshire side who kept their own Championship chances alive with a wonderful rear-guard effort last week. Lancashire and Nottinghamshire sit second and third in the table and they will meet in a huge match at Trent Bridge this week while the other match in the top flight sees bottom of the pile Yorkshire hosting Somerset.
Division 2
The top two meet in the second tier this week when the former champions Essex play host to Gloucestershire at Chelmsford. Both sides won last week so the winner there would be well on their way to securing Division 2, not that it means anything. Durham were denied the chance of playing last week when Surrey couldn’t fulfil their fixture so they get their campaign going against Glamorgan in what is a repeat of the Royal London One Day Cup final. Surrey look like they are going to play this week and they’ll take the trip to Northamptonshire who suffered a tough defeat last week.

Division 3
Worcestershire hit the top of Division 3 with an incredible run chase last week and they head to Kent looking to keep up their good start to this second phase of the competition. The other match to start in this division on Sunday sees the bottom two in the competition doing battle when local rivals Derbyshire and Leicestershire meet in a match which might settle who finishes last in the Championship this term.
Betting
You can get 11/10 on Lancashire to win at Trent Bridge and that looks a big price to me. Nottinghamshire have had a good season in four day cricket but I still can’t get my head around them being this great side all of a sudden when for a couple of seasons they couldn’t buy a win in the red ball sphere. They beat Somerset last week to give them a great chance of winning the County Championship but they might just be overrated on that win a little here.
Lancashire could only draw with Warwickshire last week but that was only down to one partnership which they couldn’t quite break but they were never in too much danger of losing and I think man for man they have a better balance to their side than Nottinghamshire, especially with Saqib Mahmood around for Lancashire. It is going to be very hot in the UK this week though which will bring spin into play and Matt Parkinson will be the standout spinner on show. Lancashire have some batsmen in good touch and I think the 11/10 on them winning here is a shade too big in a match which is a 50:50 for me.
