The Royal London One Day Cup continues on Wednesday when another two group matches take place as four more sides carry on their merry way looking for a couple of points which could offer the chance to push for qualification for the knockout stages.
We’ve had to dodge a bit of weather over the last week or so but there are no issues forecast in that regard on Wednesday. With the Test match starting and The Hundred continuing though we will have to watch the county streams for our Royal London fix.
Group A: Nottinghamshire vs Derbyshire (11.00)
The only match in Group A on Wednesday sees Nottinghamshire taking on Derbyshire in a local derby. The quirky thing about this contest is that the match will be played at the home ground of Derbyshire even though this is a home match for the Outlaws.
Nottinghamshire saw themselves drop down to third place when Glamorgan won on Tuesday but they have the chance to go back to the summit if they can come out on top in this match. Derbyshire haven’t won a match in the competition this season and even though we are barely past the halfway mark in the group phase their campaign is already over. Nottinghamshire look like worthy favourites but this is very much a second string Outlaws side and while I would still expect them to beat a poor and disappointing Derbyshire side, strong odds on does nothing for me.

Group B: Hampshire vs Worcestershire (11.00)
It might be that the better of the two matches is the one in Group B which comes from the Ageas Bowl where Hampshire take on Worcestershire in a match which carries plenty of importance for both sides as they push for at least a quarter final spot.
Worcestershire will go top of the table if they can win this match while Hampshire are looking for a win which would get them onto the coattails of the teams chasing the top three spot. Were Hampshire to lose this you would think their qualification chances will be all but over so this really is a huge match for the home side. Worcestershire haven’t been too inconvenienced by call ups to The Hundred. They have lost Moeen Ali but they don’t see much of him anyway, while Dillon Pennington and Pat Brown have also gone. Brown has barely played this season because of injury and because they have had plenty of injuries over the last year or two, they have built a decent depth to their bowling attack. They have the luxury of being able to field almost a full strength batting line up so it is no surprise they are going well. Hampshire have been decimated by The Hundred call ups, especially with the ball where they have lacked control throughout the competition and their batting needs two or three players to really fire. Hampshire have enough squad depth to compete with other sides who have been hampered by The Hundred call ups but Worcestershire aren’t one of those and I expect the Rapids to come out on top in this one.
