2021 Vitality T20 Blast – Surrey vs Glamorgan Tips and Betting Preview

There is just the one match in the Vitality Blast on Monday which comes from the South Group as the unbeaten Surrey take on a competent Glamorgan under blue skies on a warm evening at The Oval.

Although the Test match has finished, it was the scheduled TV action on Monday so that means that we are down to the Surrey live stream to watch this game, but that is near enough TV quality anyway so that isn’t a disaster.

Surrey

Surrey have made a very impressive beginning to their campaign. The 2020 finalists have won both their matches to date but it isn’t just that they have won those matches, it is how they have won them. They have done it with brutal and emphatic batting as well as some clever bowling when the time has allowed for it. They now play at home for the first time in this campaign and will be looking to maintain their perfect record.

When you look down the Surrey side at present they look a very strong side. That will change at the end of the week when the England players disappear so it is important they get as many points on the board as they can before then. Victory here would send them to the top of the South Group and would give them a good platform to build from for the remainder of the competition. Although they are losing some players to England, they do have one or two coming back so they won’t be completely weak.

Glamorgan

Glamorgan haven’t started the season quite as strong as Surrey have but they go into this match off the back of a fine win over Essex on Sunday afternoon. I’m not sure what they beat in that contest but a win is a win and after a defeat in their opening game against Gloucestershire it was important that the levelled up their ledger and ease any pressure that might have grown on them if they had been kept waiting for their first win.

I think looking down the Glamorgan ranks their batting is their strength but they have some good spin options which with the weather the UK has enjoyed over the last week or so is going to be a big factor the longer the competition goes on. They will be tested to the full here but if they can just keep tabs on this Surrey batting line up then the likes of Marnus Labaschagne and Colin Ingram can propel any side to victory.

Team News

Surrey have named an unchanged squad for this match which means that they remain without T20 captain Jade Dernbach and England ace Rory Burns. Kyle Jamieson doesn’t arrive until after the World Test Championship final but Jason Roy and the Curran brothers are still around.

Glamorgan have also chosen to go in with the same squad which they have been carrying around since the competition started. Ruaidhri Smith was the hero of the win over Essex and that may ensure the Welsh outfit are unchanged here.

Betting

I’m expecting a high scoring match here. Both these batting units have hit the ground running in this competition. Surrey plundered more than 200 in their opening match at Lord’s and then followed that up with 188/3 and had four overs left to go when they got to their target away to Somerset so they would have gone beyond 200 there as well. Glamorgan started with 175/9 in a losing cause and won on Sunday with 156/3 with an over to spare and they slowed down a little with the winning line in sight in that.

You would think the Surrey bowling attack to be going well considering it has two England internationals in it and a couple of bright youngsters but they’ve shipped 169/9 against a poor Middlesex side and 187/6 against Somerset. Glamorgan have already conceded 179 in the competition as well so it is fair to say both these teams are performing better with the bat than the ball. That should lead to a high scoring game but when you factor in there is a lot of cricket at The Oval this summer there is no guarantee this match will be in the middle of the square, making the boundaries more accessible if it isn’t, I think there is enough to suggest over 332.5 runs is the bet here.
