We have NFL action on Saturday night this week as a double header of matches takes place in the competition and they are both divisional battles which carry plenty of significance in the overall picture. The first match comes from the NFC North and sees the Detroit Lions hosting the Chicago Bears.
The Lions are right in the wildcard mix in the NFC but they are queuing up for those spots so it is vital they win here. The Bears would love nothing more than to deny them a spot in the postseason.
Detroit Lions
The Lions snapped a two match losing streak when they saw off Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week and now they will look to build on that. Their previous win prior to last week came at Soldier Field against the Chicago Bears so that is something that will encouraging them going into this encounter. This is a game they must win.
As ever their success is largely down to the quality of their quarter back Matt Stafford. He has a talented set of receivers but it is all on him because the Lions just have no running game of any significance. A concern could be that the Lions have begun to fade defensively in the second half of the campaign and they can’t afford that here.
Chicago Bears
You got the feeling that the Chicago Bears’ season was a write off from the moment they chose to begin it with Mike Glennon under center rather than Mitchell Trubisky. They have looked a lot better since the rookie came into the side but the damage was done by then and their 4-9 record for the campaign is probably an accurate reflection.
There have been some positives for the Bears in the season. The form of Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen has been significant and something they can build around in the future and their defence has performed well for much of the year. Only two sides have put up more than 30pts on them this season which is a fair effort.

Betting
There were 51pts when these two met at Soldier Field last month and I fancy we might see more points than expected in this one too. Mitchell Trubisky has released the shackles since the Bears’ season lost its competitive element while Matt Stafford always gets the job done so I can see this one going over the 43.5pt mark with both offenses going well.
This might be one of those occasions which is perfectly set up for a Matt Stafford fourth quarter comeback special. The longer the game goes the more desperate the Detroit Lions will get and generally when their backs are against the wall their best game comes out. 15/2 is a big price on Detroit to be losing at half time but winning at the end given how often it happens.
