2018 Romanian Masters Snooker Final – Stuart Bingham vs Ryan Day Betting Preview

A quick fire Romanian Masters tournament is down to the final with the event drawing to a close over the best of 19 frames across two sessions on Sunday when Stuart Bingham will take on Ryan Day for the first to be the first winner.

This is a fairly big deal for Bingham who is not in the Players Championship next week. Day has qualified for that event so he is in the middle of a hectic period of action at the present time.

Stuart Bingham

Since he came from needing a snooker in the final frame against Neil Robertson in the first round, Stuart Bingham has largely had it comfortable in this tournament. He came past Liang Wenbo 4-1 in the quarter final and then reeled five frames in a row off to get past Ali Carter 5-2 in the semi-final on Saturday.

Bingham did make a 137 in the first round of the tournament but he hasn’t been at his absolute best from a scoring point of view this week. He will hope that having made the final he will relax and enjoy himself and let his scoring flow. That said, he showed in beating Carter that he can battle his way over the line if he needs to.

Ryan Day

I think it is fair to say that the player of the week so far has been Ryan Day and in many ways that shouldn’t be unexpected. He arrived in Romania off the back of a win in Gibraltar so his confidence should have been sky high and the way he has played so far in this tournament has reflected that it must be said.

He has seen off three competent opponents in Barry Hawkins, John Higgins and Kyren Wilson to make this final and perhaps the biggest thing about that is he has dropped just three frames en route to this title showdown. If he can repeat the form he has shown this week then he is entitled to be tough to beat.

Head to Head

These two men have met 11 times in competition in the past if you exclude the Championship League and Bingham holds a narrow 6-5 advantage in those battles. Day may not need reminding that he has won two of the last three meetings however. This is the first time the two men have met in a final while Day won their only previous two-session match 10-7. That was in qualifying for the 2006 World Championship though so that may not be relevant.

Betting

I’m already on Stuart Bingham at 18/1 to win this final courtesy of my outright bet on him at the beginning of the week and with the place money sewn up already I’m happy to let that ride even though I fancy Ryan Day could be a tough nut to crack.

I do expect this to be a pretty tight final though with the odds against on over 16.5 frames appealing to me. Both men have shown capabilities of toughing it out this week and we know they can both score well on their day too so this has the look of a lengthy final about it in terms of the amount of frames played. I’ll go with the over.
