Week 9 of the NFL season concludes with the Monday Night Football which sees Jason Witten return to ANZ Stadium as a commentator as the Dallas Cowboys play host to the Tennessee Titans in the final match of the weekend.
Both teams go into the contest 3-4 for the season so their bye week came at the right time for the pair of them. The good thing for both of them is that they are still in contention in their respective divisions but if that is to remain the case they have to win here.
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys will be pleased that they are at home in such an important match. Their form this season is quite amazing. They are undefeated at home and they have lost every match in which they have played away so they will be hoping that trend continues here. Often we see Dallas fly out of the traps and then struggle a little when Thanksgiving comes around and they will be hoping they can buck that trend here.
If Dallas are to win this match then they are probably going to ride the quality of their running back Ezekiel Elliott but also their defence will be important. That unit have been going very well all year with nobody yet scoring more than 24pts against them in a match. You would think Tennessee will need at least that many to have a chance given how well the Cowboys are performing at home.
Tennessee Titans
The Titans needed their bye and it came at a good time. After the controversial call of going for the win with a two point conversion at Wembley and it failing miserably the extra week to take stock and prepare for their next match will have been important. They need to come out fighting after that call and show they are together and behind their coach having lost their last three matches.
It isn’t so much that they have lost their last three matches that have been the problem. It has been more the fact that their offense just isn’t firing. Marcus Mariota looks to have regressed although in fairness to him the entire unit is lacking star weapons. Their defence is going along well enough. Only the champions Philadelphia have put up more than 21pts on them since the opening week of the season but they are getting no help from the offense.

Betting
I am tempted by the Dallas Cowboys with their home record but I do think this Tennessee Titans defence has to be respected and I wouldn’t be completely surprised if there isn’t much in the game when the time runs out in the fourth quarter but I’m expecting this to be a hard fought, ground and pound sort of match which leads me to one bet.
Dallas sit ninth in rushing defence while the Titans might be worse than that numerically but they have only given up two runs of 20+ yards all season so at some point the quarterbacks are going to need to air the ball. Both are top ten against the pass defensively so it is hard to see where an avalanche of points come from unless the defences do the scoring. That might be possible but I still don’t think we go over 40.5pts.
