IPL 2019 – Chennai Super Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Betting Preview

The Indian Premier League returns to Chennai on Tuesday for the first time since the city was ditched of hosting the final. Chennai Super Kings look to get their campaign back on track when they host the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Complacency appears to have set in for the defending champions and they need to get back on the wagon here while the Sunrisers won last time out and need to keep on winning if they are going to force their way into the top four.

Chennai Super Kings

The Chennai Super Kings have lost their top spot in the table after three successive defeats so they will be eager to get their competition back on track. They have three home matches in a row to come which probably arrives at a good time because they have won each game they have played at their home venue so far in the tournament.

We shouldn’t write off the Super Kings just yet but they do need to get on the horse again soon. I don’t think they will miss out on the play-offs but these last three matches have shown they are vulnerable away from home, especially while two of their top three are struggling for form with the bat. Their bowling has been superb though which is some comfort to them.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

I don’t need to keep going on about the weakness that the Sunrisers Hyderabad have in their side but it is even more relevant this week as this is the final match that Jonny Bairstow plays so with so many batsmen either out of form or having not had the chance to show anything in the competition to date, the Sunrisers really need to win this one as it is likely to get a lot tougher from here.

The Sunrisers’ attack is coming to the boil nicely which is one positive for them because they are certainly going to have to call upon that unit over the remainder of the season. In an ideal world they will win this match with someone batting between four and six getting a decent score and just reassuring everyone that they will be fine in the matches to come.

Team News

There are no signs that Chennai Super Kings are going to panic with their team selection just yet despite Shane Watson and Suresh Raina offering little in the tournament thus far. They are not blessed with top class replacements for them in fairness.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will be forced to make a change with Kane Williamson having flown home due to the death of a relative. Mohammad Nabi would be favourite to replace him in the side although Shakib-al-Hasan might be a better option. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will skipper the team.

Betting

Given the obvious troubles of the Sunrisers Hyderabad middle order the natural tendency is to back the Chennai Super Kings but I just can’t trust them at the minute. They have delivered some shocking batting performances in this competition already and were one more to come along we would be sweating hard on a team who are pretty skinny in price given how comfortably they were beaten in the reverse fixture.

With that in mind I’m going to place my trust in both bowling attacks. These are two of the best in the competition and if Chennai can get through the openers early there is nothing to come while Sunrisers shouldn’t have to work too hard to get into the Chennai middle order who aren’t completely firing themselves. The runs line here is 314.5 which hasn’t been troubled in three of the four matches here. I don’t think it will be here either.
