Although the cricketing world is preparing for the World Cup which begins later this week, the domestic action should not go unforgotten and the County Championship has another round of matches which gets underway on Monday.
There are some good looking matches across both divisions and with the 50 over competition now behind us there is no stopping red ball cricket for almost two months so we should start to see some high quality cricket. A lot of the games are being played on grounds with live streams so we can keep up to date with the action easily enough.

Division One
The leaders Somerset are not in action this week so there is the chance for second placed Hampshire and third placed Yorkshire to close in and even overtake them when they meet at Headingley. Kent are enjoying a fine season and they will hope to continue that when they make the short trip to Chelmsford to take on their rivals Essex. Warwickshire go up against Surrey in the other match in a contest where both sides will be eager to win, particularly the home side Warwickshire who have only 10pts from their first three matches this season.
Division Two
Lancashire are the early pacesetters in Division Two after their fine win over Worcestershire last week and they head to Cheltenham to take on Gloucestershire in one of the four matches in the second tier this week. Gloucestershire sit third in the table so a win could be significant for them too. Two promotion chasers meet at New Road where Worcestershire look to get back on track when they host Middlesex. Sussex play host to Glamorgan at Hove with the other match being a midlands derby between Leicestershire and Derbyshire at Grace Road.
Betting
I’ll go with a couple of bets this week. In the top flight, I think Kent could be a little overpriced to see off Essex in the derby match in Chelmsford. Essex have only won one match all season so far and that was against Nottinghamshire which isn’t a great from guide so far. In the two matches they’ve not won they have lacked penetration with the ball and that is a concern. Kent have Joe Denly back this week to build on their fine start to the campaign which has seen them fair start to the campaign. In the matches they have been beaten in they have failed to make 300 in either innings. Denly with a point to prove should help them pile on the runs and having taken 20 wickets in all four matches a few extra runs is all they need. With Denly back, Kent could be a shade overpriced in this one.
Another side who are overpriced are Glamorgan. I was kicking myself last week for fancying them to beat Derbyshire and then watching them do just that without my money on but I’m going to invest in them here. Glamorgan have racked up the runs all season and with them rotating their bowlers they are finding fresh players to take 20 wickets as well. Sussex went well with the bat in Northampton last week but you’ll do well not to offer something with the bat at Wantage Road at the minute. Prior to that they were bowled out for 350 in all three innings they completed so if Glamorgan can get stuck into them early they can come out on top here.
