Wednesday is a poignant day in America so the four MLS matches that take place over the course of the evening stateside could be emotion laden affairs particularly when spots in the postseason are in the spotlight throughout.
We are closing in on the end of the regular season now so all those sides not yet in the top seven in their Conferences do not have much time to get themselves in if they want to extend their campaigns. That makes for an interesting night where two of the four matches are live in the UK.
Wednesday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off in brackets)
New York City FC vs Toronto FC (00.00)
Houston Dynamo v Minnesota United FC (01.30)
Colorado Rapids v LA Galaxy (02.00)
Real Salt Lake v San Jose Earthquakes (02.30)
Preview
We have four Conference clashes to get stuck into on Wednesday evening with the first one coming from the Eastern Conference where the new leaders New York City FC will look to move five points clear at the summit when they entertain a Toronto FC side who have the chance to solidify their postseason chances. That is the first televised game with the second one coming from the Western Conference as LA Galaxy look to move back into the play-off spots when they head to Colorado Rapids whose late run of form might have come too late to extend their season.
Minnesota United have the opportunity to move into second place in the Western Conference when they head to lowly Houston Dynamo whose season has never got going and won’t be extended beyond the regular campaign while the other match sees the teams in fifth and fourth meeting when Real Salt Lake take on San Jose Earthquakes. Neither side are assured of a play-off berth but the winners will not only look more comfortable but could be on for a first round home game which would be desired.
Betting
It is still the international break so getting too involved in these matches probably isn’t a good idea and as such I’m not going to do that. I was tempted with one or two but too many personnel are missing on either side to have complete confidence in line ups and styles and things. There is one bet which takes my fancy though.
The match between New York City FC and Toronto FC is probably a bigger match for the visitors than the hosts but the first round bye which will be in the control of NYC should be enough to have them right up for this one. With that in mind, I expect to see some goals in the contest. New York City are missing a few defenders to international duty while Toronto FC showed at the weekend that they are strong enough to deliver a big performance and score lots of goals. I expect the goals part to be a trend in this match too. There have been at least three goals in the last six meetings between these two. Five of the six have had a fourth too so over 3.25 goals should land here.
