There are more markets than you can shake a stick at for Super Bowl LIV between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers so whether you are an NFL aficionado or a newbie to the game just interested because Shakira and JLo are performing together at half time, there is something for you to go at.
Nearly every major player who will take the field has at least one market priced up about them but away from the game you can bet on things like how long the national anthem will take, which songs the Latino American duo will sing and even what colour Gatorade will be tipped over the winning coach! Here are thoughts on the value in the specials, side markets and novelty options.
National Anthem Length
If you live in America one of the biggest betting heats of the year is the length of the national anthem. It isn’t so big over here but it is our first foray into the novelty markets because the lines just look too high at 121.5 seconds. Demi Lovato is the singer of the anthem this year, and she is no stranger to the big occasion having sung the Star Spangled Banner on five other major events.
Her previous efforts have been 113 seconds, 109, 110, 118 and 131, the latter coming at the fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, an exhibition type event more than anything. Her other appearances were in the NFL on Thanksgiving (her first effort) and three MLS World Series matches. She’s gone under on four of her five outings and rumours have come out of the rehearsals that she has been quite quick. This Super Bowl is about the players. Don’t expect Lovato to keep us waiting.

Touchdowns
You would think there are going to be a number of touchdowns in this Super Bowl so the markets for touchdown scorers are well worth a look. Logic would suggest we are looking for Kansas City receivers or San Francisco running backs and I wouldn’t move too far from that, although it should be noted that full back Kyle Juszczyk could be a live runner.
All the talk going into the game has been about San Francisco running back Raheem Mostert, and rightly so after his heroics in the win over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game but that has meant that Tevin Coleman has almost gone unnoticed. Kyle Shanahan confirmed the powerful back is good to go in this match and he’ll have no shortage of motivation after missing out on a ring in epic style when he was in the Atlanta Falcons team that collapsed in Super Bowl LI. He did score in that match though and his experience might see him get some early carries. The 16/1 he opens the scoring and 23/10 he notches anytime are both big.

Player Props
As I eluded to earlier nearly every player has a market priced up about them and there are three players I like respective markets for. The first of them is Damien Williams who has a 3.5 receptions line which looks a little on the low side to me. He had five receptions in the Championship game against the Tennessee Titans and if this 49ers pass rush breaks through Mahomes will have to check it down a little from time to time. His running back could be a key weapon in the receiving game, especially on third down when the blitzes are sent. I’ll take the over there.
Frank Clark has four tackles in each of the two playoff games so far and while I don’t envisage too many passing plays from San Francisco here, he will get chances to go for the quarterback and I’m sure he’ll hunt down a running back from time to time too. Everyone will have to get stuck in for the Chiefs on defence if they are going to stop this runs so over 2.5 tackles, either complete or assisted, looks a little too low to me.
Nick Bosa has three sacks in the two postseason matches to date and the odds against on the defensive rookie of the year to record another one in this Super Bowl just looks too big to me. Granted Patrick Mahomes is elusive but we are talking about an elite pass rusher who is seemingly rampant at the present time. You often see the standout players making big plays in the Super Bowl so the 23/20 for Bosa to pick up a sack looks decent enough to me.
