It might be the international weekend but that doesn’t stop the MLS season from continuing as the Major League Soccer hierarchy continue to attempt to get the campaign completed before the end of the year.
The latest round of weekend matches begins on Saturday evening where there are three matches taking place over the country. All three matches are live on TV over here in the UK and two of them are at very watchable times so it should be a good night of football.
Inter Miami vs Houston Dynamo (22.00 – Sky Football)
The opening match of the night sees the big spending Inter Miami outfit looking to build on a good win over the New York Red Bulls in midweek when they host a Houston Dynamo side who came out of a slump in form when they beat FC Dallas last time out.
The win for Miami would have been big however it came against the Red Bulls but the fact that Gonzalo Higuain was able to get off the mark for his new club made it even better and he’ll be looking to add to his collection against a Houston side who are leaking more than two goals a game on the road this season. There will be chances for Houston to get on the scoresheet as clean sheets are few and far between for Miami but the home side look a little short and the goal line is probably a fair one at 3 so I’m happy to sit this one out.

Atlanta United vs New York Red Bulls (23.00 – Free Sports)
The second game of the evening is the one all-Eastern Conference clash as the former champions Atlanta United take on a team who have recently dominated the regular season but haven’t converted that into titles in the shape of the New York Red Bulls.
The Red Bulls suffered a tough loss to Miami in midweek while Atlanta somehow came out of their match against Orlando with a point but I took more from the New York outfit there than I did Atlanta. Atlanta have struggled all season and those struggles don’t look to be going away. They were outplayed by Orlando with the woodwork and Brad Guzan saving them on a number of occasions whereas the Red Bulls were just outdone by a world class free kick from Higuain which happens from time to time.
In an ideal world the Red Bulls wouldn’t have been the favourites in this match but they are not enough of ones to sway me from backing them on a level ball line. Atlanta are usually so strong at home but that isn’t the case at the minute. They’ll only won three at MBS all season and only one of their last five. I’m expecting an improvement in the Red Bulls under Gerhard Struber in the long-term but I’m not sure one is needed to come out on top here.
Vancouver Whitecaps vs Real Salt Lake (03.00 – Free Sports)
The final match of the night comes from Providence Park, the temporary home of the Vancouver Whitecaps as the Canadian outfit look to end a run of four straight defeats when they host a Real Salt Lake side who have dipped in form at the wrong time themselves.
This is a tough match to call. With all the switches and challenges the season has provided for the Vancouver Whitecaps you would understand if their struggles continue but the rough trot that Real Salt Lake have been on recently has means that they are under pressure to deliver the goods in this one. They should win but odds on doesn’t really interest me so I’m happy to leave the final match of the evening alone here.
