NFL 2020 – New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles Tips and Betting Preview

Week 7 of the NFL season has come at us quite quickly and it gets going with an NFC East clash between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants in a battle which remarkably will see one team end the night on top of the division despite having just one win apiece going into it.

The Eagles have been competitive in matches they have lost but still have a win and a tie from their opening six outings while the Giants finally ended their five game losing start to the season with a win over Washington last week and will be looking to build on that here.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles always have expectation going into any season with their passionate fan base always wanting more but injuries have pretty much ended hopes of a stellar season in terms of record however with the injury to Dak Prescott for the Dallas Cowboys someone will win this division with seven wins, if they even need that. That makes this a big game for both sides and one which despite their injuries the Eagles will be eager to win to gain control of their destiny.

While injuries are an excuse, especially on offense where Carson Wentz has been without a number of star players, and indeed he’ll be without his main target Zach Ertz among others here, the quarterback play of Wentz hasn’t been the best and the team have relied on their strong defence to keep them in matches. If Wentz can improve a notch then it could be the Eagles who end up controlling the East this season, as currently it is up for grabs.

New York Giants

Injuries haven’t exactly helped the New York Giants either. They saw the knee of their leading offensive player Saquon Barkley go down in week two and in many ways their season went with it. Daniel Jones keeps persevering at quarterback but at no stage has been looked like he is going to lead a side to a winning record and this is his third year in the league. He throws far too many interceptions to allow for solidity, although to be fair to him his protection is next to non-existent.

Although they lost their opening five matches the Giants defence is actually playing well which has seen them at least stay close in four of their five losses. Only once this season though have the Giants’ offense put up more than 20 points in a match and if they are to win this and then push for the NFC East title then they are going to have to come up with a way to put more points on the board. With a rookie head coach in place though you sense any improvement is going to come in the future.

Betting

The Eagles haven’t actually played as badly as their record suggests despite their injuries and close run efforts against the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers are better than the final outcomes but I can’t trust a team with so many injuries so I’ll take a couple of bets from the side markets with the first one being over 5.5 sacks. The Eagles are likely to bring a lot of pressure to Jones and this weak protection that he has and it would be a surprise if the team who have more than 20 sacks so far this season don’t get to him almost at will as the match goes on. Wentz himself doesn’t have much protection with a stack of injuries to the offensive line and the Giants are getting to the quarterback this season. I am expecting well in excess of 5.5 sacks here.

The other bet I like is for Carson Wentz to rush for more than 19.5 yards. His legs are being used a lot more in the Eagles’ offensive play at the minute both to neutralise the injuries they have and because those injuries have significantly impacted on the protection that he has. He has run for 20 or more yards in three of his last four matches with the one he didn’t cover such a line in coming against the Pittsburgh Steelers whose defence looks about as good as there is right now. He picked up nearly 50 yards on five carries last week and I think he’ll be used enough to carry for at least 20 here.
