The NFL saves the best for last on Sunday as the Buffalo Bills host the Pittsburgh Steelers in a massive AFC clash in the Sunday Night Football. Both teams currently lead the way in their divisions but are not over the line yet and a defeat here would open the door to the chasers.
Despite neither of them having their division title secured yet, both are well on track to make the postseason and there is every chance that they could meet when they get there so this is a chance for something of a marker to be laid down.
Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills are being kept honest by the Miami Dolphins in the AFC East but having seen their rivals beaten already on Sunday they will know this is a good chance to seize complete control of their own destiny. A win here puts them two games up in the division with three to play although the two sides meet in the final game of the regular season in what appears to be growing in importance by the week.
The Buffalo Bills have won five of their last six matches coming into this week with the only loss in that time coming in that ridiculous epic play by Kyler Murray in the match against the Arizona Cardinals so the Bills are doing a lot right. They proved when they beat the Seattle Seahawks that they can beat good teams and that they can win shootouts as well but they can also keep things tight when the need arises too.

Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers saw their hopes of a perfect season disappear last week so it will be interesting to see how they bounce back from that loss. That defeat has opened the door for the Kansas City Chiefs to come through and claim the number one seed in the AFC which is the only spot that secures a bye in the first round of the play-offs. That is a huge incentive to try and achieve so the Steelers need to make sure they bounce back here.
The Pittsburgh defence remains in good position and continues to play good football but their offense has just come off the boil in recent weeks. That has to be a concern not just here but moving forward because although the notion that defences win Championships still rings true, this is forever becoming a league you have to score more and more in. This might not be the week for the offense to flourish but if it can it would certainly help.
Betting
The point line for this match is up at 48.5 which is higher than I thought it would be because I’m expecting to see a very competitive match here between two sides in the NFL. The big thing for me here is that both teams have a very good defence who can make big plays up front and in the back field which is likely to naturally keep the scoring lower than would normally be expected unless there are special teams or defensive touchdowns.
As I eluded to above there are just one or two signs that the Steelers’ offense is beginning to find the going getting a little tough and with not a huge amount of time to recover from their loss to Washington last week, which was an extremely physical contest, I wouldn’t be completely surprised to see the Pittsburgh side a little flat here. Even if they’re not I’m happy to ride these two defences and take the scoring to stay under 48.5pts.
