NFL 2021 – Week 16 Sunday Early Games Tips and Betting Preview

Although we have matches in the NFL 2021 season on Thursday night and Christmas Day, the majority of the Week 16 games come along on Sunday as ever on what looks like being a defining Boxing Day in the competition.

It might be Boxing Day but the usual format and viewing options apply so we have two matches live on TV in the UK and the pick of the key moments available on Red Zone. As ever certain games are available with the bookmakers too.

1pm Kick Offs (6pm UK time)

The televised match in the first of the two kick off slots on Boxing Day comes from Gillette Stadium for the biggest game in the AFC East this season when the New England Patriots will be looking to win the division when they host their key rivals Buffalo Bills. The Patriots have already beaten the Bills so Buffalo know they have to win to keep their division hopes alive. New England saw their winning run ended last week and will look to bounce back in style.

Seven other matches take place in this kick off slot with three of them being in the same division. The biggest one of those comes in the AFC North where the top of the table is up for grabs when the Cincinnati Bengals take on the Baltimore Ravens. Elsewhere, the Carolina Panthers go up against the champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Philadelphia Eagles meet the New York Giants. The other three matches see the Atlanta Falcons taking on the Detroit Lions, Houston Texans going up against the Los Angeles Chargers and the New York Jets facing the Jacksonville Jaguars.

4.05/4.25pm Kick Offs (9.05/9.25pm UK time)

Just the three matches are saved for the second slot on Boxing Day and in the TV game we get to see the Kansas City Chiefs continuing their quest for the number one seeding in the AFC. They go into the week knowing that if they win out that position is theirs. The first team in their way are the Pittsburgh Steelers who are still in the hunt for both the AFC North title, or a wildcard spot should they not manage to win that particular division.

Two other matches finish off the early games on Sunday and we have a divisional game in among them too. It is a pretty big game as well as the Las Vegas Raiders host the Denver Broncos in the AFC West with both teams 7-7 going into the game. The winners will stay alive in the wildcard race but the season could well be done for the losers. The Seattle Seahawks host the Chicago Bears in the other game in a clash which has little on it from a postseason perspective.

Betting

I’ll go with one over the course of the Sunday action and that comes from the Gillette Stadium where I expect the New England Patriots to put the Buffalo Bills out of their misery and secure the AFC East title. The Bills won’t need me to tell them that their chance came and went in the first meeting between these two sides and while they did well to beat the Carolina Panthers last week, their loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers confirms that they are just falling short against offenses that can powerfully run the ball.

If anything the score flattered the Bills in that match too because they were way down before Tom Brady had 15 minutes of madness. New England ran all over Buffalo in that first game and what was worse is Buffalo knew it was coming because of the conditions and they still couldn’t stop it. I expect a lot more rushing from the Patriots here with Damien Harris likely to suit up. Even then Mac Jones is having a solid season. The Patriots got caught out by the Colts last week but I don’t think they’ll make that mistake twice and with Josh Allen having a couple of receiving targets absent because of Covid-19 I think this is another tough day at the office for the Bills. I’ll take New England on the money line.
