The quarter final line up will be finalised at the World Championship on Monday when the remaining four second round clashes will draw to a close on a potentially dramatic day of snooker inside the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
We already know four quarter finalists and the other four will all win through over the course of the two sessions of action that takes place on Monday with no fewer than four former winners looking to make it through.
Day 9 Recap
There were no matches scheduled to be concluded on Sunday but John Higgins wasn’t too far from winning his match with Noppon Saengkham with a session to spare. He went from 4-4 to 11-4 up before the Thai snatched the last to give him a faint hope on Monday. Judd Trump also galloped into a lead as he took a 10-6 advantage on Anthony McGill who will need something special to stay alive in the competition. The other two matches finished Sunday beautifully poised with Jack Lisowski 9-7 up on Neil Robertson and Kyren Wilson and Stuart Bingham locked at 8-8.

In Play Betting
We have four matches to go at on Monday and I like bets in two of them. The first is Stuart Bingham with a 1.5 frame head start. His match with Kyren Wilson looked like it was going to be tight throughout and it now looks like it will have a deciding frame written all over it. The Essex cueist might be feeling a little deflated having seen an 8-5 lead wiped out on Sunday but he didn’t do a lot wrong in those three frames and he has seen it all and done it all here before. Bingham has played a lot of close matches here and he won’t give this up without a fight. Wilson won’t either but while he has responded to going behind well in this match he hasn’t been at his best. Bingham has secured an early lead in both sessions so far and I think he’ll come out and take the game to Wilson and if he starts fast he can force a decider at the very least here.
I’m a little surprised that Jack Lisowski isn’t a clearer favourite to beat Neil Robertson from here on in. He will begin their final session with a 9-7 lead and that is pretty significant. Lisowski was fantastic on Sunday knocking in three centuries in opening up that 9-7 advantage and he isn’t showing signs of wilting which many expected him to do. History will tell us that when Robertson gets involved in a tight clash here he tends to end up going home and if Lisowski starts fast here and gets Robertson under it from the off he might be able to limp his way home. Lisowski has Peter Ebdon in his corner who has seen it all in this place so he’ll be able to get his man mentally prepared for the task at hand here. Robertson is under real pressure here and I think he’s relying on Lisowski baulking at the finish line. Robertson’s highest break in the eight frames on Sunday was 68. If that doesn’t improve on Monday evening he’ll be going home but even if it does he has made no secret of his mental demons with this venue and the longer he’s behind the more they’ll weigh him down. Lisowski should be clear favourite based on the score and the way he’s played this match so far. I’ll take him as the outsider.
