T20 World Cup 2022 – Bangladesh Team Guide and Betting Preview

Bangladesh had a good enough T20 World Cup last year to only have to start their campaign in this tournament in the Super 12 stage, however they will have to go some to reach the top four in their group this time around. Bangladesh arrive in Australia off the back of a pretty ordinary Asia Cup campaign and they weren’t no better in New Zealand earlier in the month so they have plenty to prove.

Team Guide

Bangladesh probably knew deep down that their chance of glory in this competition was last year because it is hugely unlikely that conditions will suit them here in Australia. There was certainly no signs of them being comfortable in the Tri-Series in New Zealand recently and the pitches here are only going to be quicker and bouncier which doesn’t really play to their strengths either with the bat or the ball.

If Bangladesh are going to have any sort of success in this tournament then they are clearly going to need to bat to the best of their ability. The problem they have is so many of their seasoned campaigners who have elevated them to the level they have operated at in recent years. That is going to put pressure on the bowlers and you have to think they are going to get minimal joy with their spinners so this feels like it could be a long few weeks for Bangladesh.

Betting

Usually I would look at the team batter and bowler markets in these team previews but really and truly I think both could be dominated by Shakib Al Hasan, although that is reflected in the prices. I probably wouldn’t go near the bowling market because I don’t expect Bangladesh to take too many wickets so the last thing you’d need is a freak over from someone or a death spell to go against you. I would imagine he’ll top score but the prices don’t reel me in.

One price I do like the look of is the 12/1 on Bangladesh not to win a match in this tournament. On the face of it they will be heavy favourites to beat the Netherlands but there is an awful lot of rain in the forecast for that match and then other than Zimbabwe, who wouldn’t be completely without a chance against Bangladesh, the Tigers are going to be huge outsiders. With all the rain around this tournament we only need it to come at the right times and Bangladesh, who have won four of their last 23 T20 internationals, two of which were against the UAE, could well go winless here.
