The semi-finals of the World Championship continues inside the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield on Friday with the four men left in the tournament looking to position themselves nicely for a tilt at a place in the final on Saturday.
The opening semi-final will play two sessions on Friday, the morning and the evening while the second semi-final has just the afternoon session. At the end of the day we might be closer to finding out who will compete in the final.
Day 13 Recap
We have had one session of each semi-final and they have both been absorbing in their own way. The first semi-final to begin was the one between Luca Brecel and Si Jiahui which the Chinese player opened up a 5-3 lead in. He made two centuries in that match so we are halfway to the four we need for Thursday’s bet to come in. The other semi-final also has a 5-3 score with Mark Allen leading Mark Selby when they return on Friday afternoon.

In Play Betting
It is interesting that both outsiders going into the semi-finals are on top. I still hope that Mark Selby turns his match with Mark Allen around and that might be the focus of a bet on Saturday when we have a slightly clearer picture of how proceedings are progressing but for Friday it is the other semi that I am going to focus on. That has two sessions of play and so by the end of the day we will be much closer to knowing one half of the finalists.
Si Jiahui played a brilliant session of snooker on Thursday, putting to bed both notions that his exploits so far might have caught up with him or that he will be nervous in the first semi-final he has played in at tour level. He made two tons and a 90 and probably should be more than 5-3 up, and would have been if the run of the ball had favoured him. I was worried when Brecel said he struggled to maintain his concentration in the earlier rounds and with two sessions on Friday if he drops off he could see his 5-3 deficit extended. We saw on Thursday that there isn’t much between these two and if Jiahui can come out of Friday 8-8 or even 9-7 up then he’ll be 13-11 or 14-10 ahead going into Saturday and I expect him to finish the job from there. Jiahui has played all the snooker in this match and can push on throughout Friday and get over the line on Saturday.
