Premier League 2024-25 – Sunday 29th September Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Premier League wekeend continues on Sunday afternoon when another two matches in the current round of games take place as a trio of top four contenders are on show looking for three points to boost those claims.

This is a normal Sunday in that both of the matches are live on TV in the UK and with the weather set to take a turn for the worse again there is no reason not to sit back and enjoy a few hours of what should be decent action.

Ipswich Town vs Aston Villa (14.00 – Sky Sports Main Event & Sky Sports Premier League)

The opening match of the afternoon sees Ipswich Town looking for their first win back in the Premier League when they play host to an Aston Villa side where the excitement will be building among their fanbase with a first ever Champions League home tie in the modern day moniker of the competition against the mighty Bayern Munich to come in midweek.

Before they get to that match though they have to take care of business in Suffolk. Villa have made a very good start to the season. They have won four of their five Premier League matches and were well on top in the one they lost to Arsenal, although there is no shame in losing to them anyway, and they have come out on top in a Champions League game too. Ipswich had a terribly tough start to their Premier League life with matches against Liverpool and Manchester City but as the fixtures have levelled out they have looked better and have picked up three successive draws, although they needed a very late equaliser at Southampton last week. I’ve feared for the promoted teams before a ball was kicked this season and I especially don’t think they will get much joy against the better sides in the league, of which Villa are definitely one. I’m not a massive fan of backing away sides at odds on though so to get a bit of juice in the price I like the jump from roughly 10/11 to 6/5 if you add over 1.5 goals to a Villa win. In all four Premier League wins this season Villa have scored twice at least and they scored three times in the Champions League. The only result we lose with a Villa win is 1-0 but Ipswich aren’t a side who lose 1-0 too often under McKenna with him prepared to risk conceding a second in a bid to get something from a game. Villa to win and over 1.5 goals feels good to me.

Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur (16.30 – Sky Sports Main Event & Sky Sports Premier League)

The second match of the afternoon comes from Old Trafford where Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur meet after both got their Europa League campaigns off to unbeaten starts in midweek to give them something to build on.

While these two teams are expected to contend for the top four this season, both of them have their weaknesses and frailties and if they are exposed by the other in this match then we could get a really intriguing and entertaining contest. There is a case to be made for United being a decent price around the 7/5 mark because Tottenham have a wretched recent away record outside teams in the relegation zone and the home side might have been better than their results have suggested this season. The problem I have with Man Utd is they seem to find different ways not to win matches and while the Spurs away record doesn’t cut the mustard, they have dangerous players in their side. If I’m honest, I don’t trust either of these teams so I’m pretty happy to leave this one well alone.
