The quarter finals of the Africa Cup of Nations conclude on Sunday and they do so with three extremely heavy hitters looking to make their way into the last four of the competition out in Cameroon.
The opening game on Sunday in particular promises to be a fantastic contest but there are star names everywhere you look throughout the course of the day so there should be much to enjoy over the two games.
Egypt vs Morocco (15.00 – Sky Premier League)
The first of the two quarter finals on Sunday afternoon sees two North African powerhouses going at it for a place in the last four where the host nation Cameroon await the winner of the match between Egypt and Morocco.
The path to this quarter final has been very different for these two sides. Egypt have been good at the back but unimpressive in the attacking areas whereas Morocco have shown plenty going forward but perhaps not looked quite as strong as they would have wanted defensively. I sense this is going to be a very tight game despite Egypt flattering to deceive in this tournament so far. They still have enough players to come good at some point while Morocco have this amazing record but as with Italy in the Nations League there is a sense that such runs will end eventually. I can’t pick a winner here so I’ll leave this one alone.

Senegal vs Equatorial Guinea (19.00 – BBC2 & Sky Premier League)
The last of the quarter finals will see the pre-tournament favourites Senegal looking to progress to a semi-final date with Burkina Faso but in order to get there they have to take care of the surprise package Equatorial Guinea in the last eight.
Senegal have made it through to this stage of the tournament but they have been anything but convincing. Even when they were against nine men in the last 16 there was nothing impressive or emphatic about their play, but like most good sides do they are winning when not playing well. I don’t believe this Senegal side can keep on flattering to deceive for much longer. That isn’t to say I expect them to demolish Equatorial Guinea because you have to respect what they have done in the tournament so far but there should be a clear gulf between these two sides and I think that can be highlighted come full time where I expect Senegal to have won a match devoid of more than 3.5 goals.
